Garrett GilbertI see that Gilbert will be playing QB for Steve Spurrier and the Orlando Appolos in the new Alliance of American Football league. Anyone know of other Mustangs playing in this league?

Re: Garrett GilbertSomeone on the AAC board took the time to go through the rosters and list most the players from each of the schools they could find. You'll see SMU's highlighted below.
UCONN: Vontae Diggs - Atlanta Jamar Summers - Birmingham EJ Levenberry - Memphis Luke Carrezola - Salt Lake City Junior Joseph - Salt Lake City UCF: Justin Holman - Atlanta Chequan Burkett - Orlando Jerod Boykins - Orlando Jeff Godfrey - Orlando Jordan McCray - Orlando Aaron Evans - Orlando Rannell Hall - Orlando Chris Martin - Orlando Antonio Guerad - Orlando USF: D'Ernest Johnson - Orlando Sean Price - Orlando Quinterrius Eatmon - Orlando BJ Daniels - Salt Lake City ECU: Bryce Williams - Arizona Deshawn Benton - San Antonio Phillip Nelson - San Diego Memphis: Jahmahl Pardner - Memphis Johnathan Cook - Memphis Latarius Brady - Memphis Houston: Greg Ward - San Antonio Nick Thurman - San Antonio Kenneth Farrow - San Antonio Joey Mbu - San Antonio Demarcus Ayers - San Antonio Cincinnati: Jeff Luc - Atlanta Kendall Calhoun - Atlanta Adrien Robinson - Memphis Nick Truesdell - Salt Lake City Mekale McKay - San Antonio Nick Temple - San Antonio Tulane: Julius Warmsely - Memphis Xavier Rush - Memphis SMU: Sterling Moore - Arizona Anthony Rhone - Memphis Mason Gentry - San Antonio Tulsa: Keyaris Garrett - Atlanta Temple: Adonis Jennings - Salt Lake City Leon Johnson - Salt Lake City Evan Rodriguez - San Antonio Jahad Thomas - San Diego The league actually has a lot of talent in the coaching ranks and god knows there is more than enough player talent to comprise a football league. I am a little bit intrigued, TBH.
Re: Garrett GilbertSo I guess Gilbert is listed under Texas
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Garrett GilbertI'm sorry, I didn't list him because he was already spoken for. My bad. The gentleman who made the list included a short blurb about each of the teams before the school's list with some players from the conference and didn't mention them again in the list I copied and posted.
GG is listed as SMU.
Re: Garrett Gilbertsounds like the United States Football League that Donald Trump had an ownership of the franchise in NYC. Sued the NFL and won, the reward was one dollar. not for nothing, but how much football can you watch? sports attendance is on the decline.
Re: Garrett Gilbert
Agreed. Football is beyond the saturation point. ESPN is year around full time NFL football to the point the season is almost anti-climatic. They peak with the NFL draft and the months of speculation and thousands of "experts" featured. I simply have Zero interest in a new pro league let alone the Arena League which apparently somehow continues to exist. Canadian football is at least interesting and far more exiting than the NFL for the most part with their larger field and rules that allow for creativity; but even the spring start to their season is as early as I want to even think about football. I guess TV will have to support a new league to fill programing and I cannot see much fan interest.
Re: Garrett Gilbert
It will also be interesting to see how fans react if the non-P5 leagues start playing their football in the spring. Shake It Off Moody

Not since June Jones I believe. An object at rest cannot be stopped!
Re: Garrett GilbertIt’s time to just embrace Major League Soccer.
Deep down y’all know it’s true. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Mustangs Abu!
Re: Garrett Gilbert
Or watch paint dry. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Garrett GilbertI could have sworn I read somewhere that he was signed through next season.
Guess not. I just checked the Panthers' roster and he's not on there.
Re: Garrett Gilbert
So I'll call this. In 5 years, MLS will be way beyond the NHL as the fourth major league in the US. A huge stink has been raised over the past year about the US failing to qualify for the world cup, and rightfully so. That said, we are about to enter a golden age of US soccer that we have never seen before. Fans of soccer in the US are going to quickly adopt the US as their team and grow attached to US stars, and the sport is going to mainstream quickly, at an even faster pace than it has over the last 10 years. The players just starting their careers right now at 18-20 years old in Eurpoe at top clubs are outstanding (Weah, Pulisic, McKinney, Adams, Sargent, etc). And the next round of players at the U-20 and U-17 levels are even better and deeper. The profile of the US player is going to rise significantly, and we have already seen that in recent transfer fees. On top of that, the instant success Tyler Adams has had at Leipzig after his transfer from RBNY brings major credibility to MLS as a league. Almeron will do the same at Newcastle. The revenue MLS brings in with these transfers over the next 5 years is going to enable clubs to even further invest in their youth acadamies, will significantly increase the popularity of the league, and over the next 10 years, MLS will transition from a selling league to a buying league, becoming one of the top leagues in the world. There has been a bunch of talk about soccer catching on in the US since the 70s. The evolution of MLS has been slow, but consistent. Soccer in the US is just about to hit the hockey stick growth that was anticipated to happen eventually for the past 40 years.
