Coaching Vacancy at University of Texas - Arlington

Postby MrMustang1965 » Thu Mar 09, 2006 6:51 pm

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - University of Texas-Arlington men's basketball coach Eddie McCarter announced his resignation on Thursday.

"We want to thank Eddie for his 16 years of service to the University of Texas-Arlington," said UTA's director of athletics. "Eddie is a man of great character and unquestioned integrity and I wish him well in his future endeavors."

McCarter recorded 179 wins in 14 seasons with UTA, the most in school history and second in Southland Conference history. The Mavericks also won their first SLC regular-season championship in 2004 under McCarter, sharing the title with Texas-San Antonio and Southeastern Louisiana.

His resignation comes two days after UTA lost in double-overtime to Sam Houston State in the opening round of the SLC Conference Tournament. The Mavericks finished with a record of 14-16 for the season.

Wonder if the Mustangs could snare this kid away from UTA now that a coaching change is eminent over in the land of Six Flags?

Donauld Bell, a star HS player out of Arlington-Sam Houston who is considered one of the top players in the state, and by far the Mavs biggest signing ever and could have gone to Cincinatti and other MAJOR schools. But he wanted to play close to home so he signed with UTA.

He wanted to stay in Arlington? He must have some weird problems. When I used to go to Rangers games I would try to get outta there as fast as I could.
Willis to slot receiver!

Unfortunately, NCAA rules prohibit us from approaching this kid. The kid has to come to us first. Let's not put Tubbs in the hot tub.
