Re: And down goes MemphisUnless you’re a blue blood. Then you can do anything you want. The big boys have been on this Memphis resurgence from the beginning. They don’t like being outrecruited.
Re: And down goes Memphis
You’re preaching to the choir.
Re: And down goes Memphis
I think the real complaints Memphis has are: 1) It also matches things that multiple other programs have done while receiving no punishment - or such delayed punishment that it did not matter. (NCAA doesn't care about this point.) 2) Memphis provided all of the available information to the NCAA and Wiseman was cleared, but then the NCAA backtracked and abruptly declared him ineligible. There was no new information to my knowledge. (This might actually work...) I think Memphis is [deleted]. But I hope not.
Re: And down goes MemphisAs a booster ( or coach) I cannot provide a player or recruit with a burger or laundry detergent, but apparently Penny can pay thousands to move a kid to his town.
Not defending the NCAA, but if this turns out to be a nothing burger ( pun intended) a lot of rules need changing, All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: And down goes Memphis
It was north of ten thousand dollars. Penny was a high school coach at the time. There are at least media references to him having done things like this for other families. It will be interesting to see what actually comes out.
And down goes MemphisI am not employed by SMU but am considered a booster due to attending. Sherwood was not employed by SMU.

Re: And down goes MemphisGreat story on the Memphis case:
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/11/ncaa-rules-memphis-penny-hardaway-james-wiseman-chase-young?csp=trueanthem&utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR3kGLNkVj6NwQRbck7DXsnnjaBU44aTfXTNqi8g4F_4aEqppG4TdcIPCYw SMU should file an amicus brief in support of Memphis. Enough is enough.
Re: And down goes Memphis
We don't even defend ourselves. ![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: And down goes MemphisI wonder what would happen if we got a court to say that the two transfers were eligible and started playing them? What would the NCAA do?
Re: And down goes MemphisWiseman gets 12 game suspension but Memphis will appeal:

Re: And down goes Memphis
Exactly
Re: And down goes Memphis
If there is one that drives me crazy is our reluctance to fight back against this corrupt organization. We always seems to just be saying " thank you sir may I have another".
Re: And down goes Memphis
Exactly. In the 80s I was one who advocated for suing the NCAA in a Texas court. They would have settled before letting us depose their investigators. First thing I would have subpoeaned would have been the complaints they received about the UT but refused to investigate. They pick on us because we don't fight back.
Re: And down goes MemphisTopper- I am with you on that. In fact, IIRC there were a group of people who had committed a 'war chest' of about 1 mill. to fight the ncaa and the university told them (us) to shove it where the sun doesn't shine. That was about the last time I donated to this school. They didn't want my money then so they don't need it now.
This admin. let by RGT and lapboy AD have no cajones when it comes to standing up for the university and fighting like most schools do. Really sad.
Re: And down goes Memphis
My understanding is merely being a school contributor or booster meets the standard. You do not need to be an alum although that is prime facie evidence.
