This one hurts. Just when I thought we could see more alumni among our coaching ranks!

Tough to lose such an important coach and recruiter. But good for him. And this is what occurs with continued success with the program.
Losing coaches to good opportunities is a reality for every successful football program and team, college and pros. And the more successful the program/team, the more attractive the coaches are (rightfully, due to their success). Alabama seems like they are replacing at least one coordinator level coaches every year.
It’ll be great to have him back with even more responsibility within the program one day in the future, if that’s meant to be.
Good for him. And, Sonny’s a great program leader. He’ll continue to find and groom good coaches.

is this in any way related to the hire this week of Jim Leavitt? Was he thinking he'd stay if he got the job instead of Leavitt? Or did he think Leavitt might want his own guy? Or is it a total coincidence it all happened both in the same 48 hours? Best of luck to Randall and his new payday.

No. He had several offers from the SEC prior to Kane leaving. We were able to keep him from Ole Miss, but LSU bumped his pay pretty significantly. Nothing we can do. He will be back someday as a coordinator.

I submitted before I finished . LSU bumped their offer, and then Ole Miss came back and bumped again. I was surprised he went to Ole Miss over LSU, but honestly, going to LSU would have hurt us in recruiting a little more, so I am glad he went there.

LSU is bidding to hire him for Ole Miss and Ole Miss is bidding to hire him for LSU.
A long tradition of existence.
