Let’s move on.

Because even elite athletes - see Bradley Beal - can test positive. If he or Bradley or anyone else gets it and recovers, great ... but they could still pass it to someone without such a robust immune system.

The people without robust immune systems could just get the vaccine. Problem solved.

How will they know? After they get the virus? A little late at that point.

The people without robust immune systems do not benefit from the vaccine. The vaccine helps immunocompetent people not immunocompromised people.

Bottom line as to why I’m now doing an about-face and choosing to get vaccinated is this. As a Christian, I’m not personally fearful of the disease. My primary reason is charity.

I’ve been doing a lot of self examination, thanks in good part to many of you here. As a conservative, it’s always been easy to point out the moral failures of progressives. But it came to me that we conservatives also fail in two primary ways: selfishness (what we call “individual responsibility” when we’re praising ourselves) and its closely-related sin, lack of concern for those who are not like us, particularly the poor.

I’m setting side my pride and doing it for others.

That is a wonderful moment of self-reflection that everyone could use a bit more of. Thanks for sharing.

We need to remember, and appreciate, that in America, people still have the right to think, research, and decide for themselves. Personally, I don’t care what decision anyone makes as long as they make it freely and without coercion.

Ha, you used (misused) the word “research.”

From the interwebs, but highly applicable to you:

“Please stop saying you ‘researched it '. You didn't research anything and its highly probable that you dont even know how to do so. Did you compile a literature review and write abstracts on each article? Or better yet, did you collect a random sample of sources and perform independent probability statistics on the reported results? No? Did you at least take each article, one by one and look into the source ( that would be the author, publisher and funder), then critique the writing for logical fallacies, cognitive distortions and plain inaccuracies. Did you ask yourself why this source might publish these particular results? Did you follow the trail of references and apply the same source of scrutiny to them? No? Then you didn’t [redacted] research anything. You read or watched a video, most likely with little to no objectivity. You came across something in your algorithm manipulated feed, something that lived with your implicit biases and served your confirmation bias, and subconsciously applied your emotional filters and called it proof.”

Stupidity is unnerving. Dukie is right though. I have published a literature review, which can be an arduous process. It is doubtful many people read through peer reviewed journals on the COVID-19 vaccines. Most are basing their decisions on gut feeling. I appreciate ponyboy's honest feedback and he has looked much more into the data than most people who have opted in or out of the vaccines so I am not attacking him.

Oh Dukie, I’m so happy that you know how to research correctly! Congratulations!! I am sorry your comprehension skills aren’t to the same high level. If you put your anger aside and read what I wrote, you (hopefully) will see I never claimed to research anything. What I wrote is that people in America have the right to think, research, and make their own decisions about things. Guess what? Even if someone has a different opinion than yours or Cole’s, it’s still THEIR decision. Not for anyone else (yes, that includes you) to make it for them.

I don't think Dukie misinterpreted what you wrote. Dukie explained what research involves and it's a pretty safe bet that most people opting in or out of the vaccine are not researching anything at all. I don't sense any anger, but likening a gut feeling to research is pretty ill informed. Also, if someone decides to get plastic surgery or not it really doesn't affect anyone else. However, this infectious disease does affect everyone and may result in more lockdowns in the near term as Mitch McConnell fearfully alluded to in advocating for the vaccine yesterday.
