Fairly certain if we win out and Houston wins out we would face Houston in championship game as we would have beaten Cincinnati which would sort the tie.

No that's not right. One team from each division makes the championship game. Cincy is almost guaranteed to make it since they are way up in the East. For SMU to make the championship game, SMU has to win out and Houston would have to lose twice to USF, Temple or Memphis, because they have the tie breaker over SMU.

I think that the AAC got rid of the divisional format when UConn left. Unless I'm mistaken, the top two teams in the league play for the championship. SMU could win out and be one of those teams.

Top 2 teams play in the championship game. No more divisions until the AAC goes to 14 members

Sewanee Stand & Charleston Stang are correct - we don’t have two divisions currently - it is the top 2 teams - because of the tiebreaker formula, Cincinnati would be eliminated if Houston and SMU would win out

That would make sense if it's "head to head" as Houston would be 1-0, SMU 1-1 and Cincy 0-1

It’s not head to head it is by ranking. If Cincy loses to us, they will still be ranked higher than Houston by virtue of their ND win. If we beat Cincy, we’ll be ranked higher than Houston even with our head to head close call. Therefore, SMU/Cincy rematch at Ford while Houston prepares for the Frisco Bowl. And justice for all.

So...any way you slice it (head to head or highest ranked), our guys "probably" control their own destiny

Top two conference records. If there is a tie, then head to head, then record against the next best team, then the next best, all the way down the conference standings. If somehow there is still a tie, overall winning percentage, then CFP ranking, then finally coin toss.

Sure sounds like the Big 12 a few years ago where everyone argues about who should go to the conference championship, but everyone had one loss and there wasn't a clear winner so nobody got in the CFP.

And the bottom line is that SMU's loss to Houston probably eliminated Cincy from any Final Four consideration. Will be GA, AL & 2 of the other 3 P5 champions. Cincy needed to beat SMU twice and for those to be our only 2 losses to have any hope.
