Morgan: BEST Candidate Available

Postby bigmoney » Sat Apr 08, 2006 12:32 pm

Great comments everyone. As Kimballhoops said: Prep schools are producting BIG players. Morgan has the ties.

Great comments by Stallion. Morgan is clean. Couldn't get teams to come to Ames. They just used the services. As also stated, the player he got there never played much. Was with Morgan in California. No problems here.

Let's concentrate on Morgan's record. Won alot of games in 3 years! We really need him here at SMU.

Stanley Godine, Sean Stopperich and David Stanley never played much at SMU either but I'm sure they were all paid a bundle. Surely you can see through that logic.

For what it is worth, this article shows no wrong doing by either parties.

I want the best coach available who will be able to handle advirsity and media knocking down the door. We need someone who has strong recruiting ties and I feel Morgan is the best available. Orsini has to get an African-American in here to make the community happy and most importantly DISD. There are not many available especially proven winners that have strong recruiting ties. As one coach told me which I will never forget, What makes a great coach? Great players. I believe Morgan is the best fit for this situation but it is a long shot at best, who knows if he is even interested. Rumors are rumors but this should be a enjoyable ride for all of us

sounded like Bob Hitch, Bobby Collins and Henry Lee Parker right before the hammer came down. A Freedom of Information request details the Contracts signed between Iowa St and D1 Scheduling. Its amazing that everyone of these schools involved with D1 Schheduling has numerous former graduates of Los Angeles City College. Coincidence-I doubt it.

Morgan: BEST Candidate Fot the Position

Postby bigmoney » Sat Apr 08, 2006 1:48 pm

Just a big fan of SMU basketball. We need to get a winner here in Dallas. Need to get it like it was before. Too proud of a university to not be a winner in major college athletics.
Looks like Morgan is available. He loves Dallas and has the recruiting talent. As Kimballhoops said: Great players make great teams. Connections are the key and Morgan has them. He is a class act that will get the DISD talent, recruit the East coast prep schools and has strong ties to the AAU programs.
Just look at the rosters of the big colleges. The coaches have great recruiting skills, knows the AAU coaches, and knows the prep schools throughout the USA. Morgan has all of these. I don't thnk Texas, Baylor, or A & M would want Morgan to get SMU, as he would get the talent in Dallas away from them. He fits all the ctiteria to turn this program upward,

Myself? SMU alum, was in the band, probably attended more football, bball, soccer, volleyball games than any other student on campus from 2000-05.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just surprised at all the new posters in the last few days, wondering how they followed SMU bball.

And again, just curious, but if you're a big Tubbs follower, how come you're just now on the SMU board after he's been fired? Where do you think Tubbs will end up next?

Has anyone actually seen morgan's teams play? THis year Iowa St. signigicantly underachieved as they were pre-season Top25 and went 16-14 in a down year of the Big12. His offense consisted of letting Stinson and Blalock dribble drive and force contested shots, literally nothing else. He is a great recruiter but he seems to not do anything with them once he's there (yes he went to the tournament with Iowa St. last year I know). Hell he got fired by Long Beach St. of all places. Add on the fact that the D1 scheduling isnt rumor, its fact. Only teams with LACC players used D1 scheduling or for that matter any scheduling services like it. THis is not a good hire for both coaching ability and cleaniness for our program.

Unless John Thompson, Sr. comes out of retirement to coach at SMU, or Coach K decides he's tired of coaching at a school with rapists on campus, I really am not going to weigh in on who the next coach should be until I see who is interviewing for the job. My guess is that it won't be anyone you've ever heard of.

Admire JT, I am hoping Kelvin will give him a chance at Indiana. I think he would do great! The DFW area has already had top players from the area go to Indiana, I think the last one was Bracy Wright.

Jokerswild- I was able to see Iowa State a couple times this year against Iowa, OU and in the Big 12 Tournament. I enjoyed there style of play! I was able to see them play more the year before and I think they overachieved this year. They were playing without any postman! When your guards lead you in rebounding it's a problem. They started two true freshman in the front court. I think they lost 8 games by 3 points or less with inexperienced big men in the Big 12 is not bad! Last year when they had a true center they were pretty tough to beat. How many coaches in the Big 12 have posted wins vs OU, @Texas and @Kansas in the same year!

There is absolutely no way SMU will even give this guy an interview.

SMU will look at several candidates probably Gillen, Perry Clark, Rob Evans and maybe Fran Fraschilla (who of course went throught he rehab program at ESPN). You ever notice how all of these coaches who work at ESPN suddenly become hot again.

And have you noticed that 18 of the first 28 posts in this thread are by four names (bigmoney, KimballHoops, Pony98 and Ashbymustangs) with a combined 31 posts between them -- and EACH of which joined the site today (including bigmoney, the self-pronounced "just a big fan of SMU basketball)? I smell a one-man Morgan fan club.
