Re: Opting out of bowl gameMike Ford...one hell of a Soph campaign...led the nation in two or three categories that year, ‘78, got hurt early in 1979, and as they say, the rest is history.
Re: Opting out of bowl game
Aye... Mike Ford's knee bending wonky is another. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Opting out of bowl gameMike Ford. One of, if not the best, pocket QBs in SMU history and could have been a one of college's greatest. Career destroyed by a cheap shot TCU artist. Late hit after the throw was gone in an intentional hit to blow up Mike's knee. It was so bad that the coaching stafff deleted the play from game film the next year when we prepared for TCU.
Wags was one of the hardest working backs in '79. He should have never been returning kickoffs except the team was so decimated by injuries that we literally had nobody else.
Re: Opting out of bowl gameWas Aldrick faster than Rod Jones?
Re: Opting out of bowl game
I hit Ford on a safety blitz in high school...He was solid, never saw the hit coming, shook it off and rifled the ball 30 yards downfield. I felt like I had broken my neck. He was bigger than three of our offensive linemen. A good guy, and a cannon of an arm. Last edited by peruna81 on Fri Dec 10, 2021 1:00 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Opting out of bowl gameAnother injured running back who shined was Shan-derrick Charles. Unlike Alabama, we can't just plug in another 5 star.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Opting out of bowl game
A healthy Shanderrick would have been our LT. He was that good. Running for over 200 yards in a couple of games with how bad that team was, it was truly amazing.
Re: Opting out of bowl game
Shanderrick's performance at SMU brought more attention to his little bro who managed to stay healthy longer and had a pretty nice career
Re: Opting out of bowl game
Slow down. He was really good, but he put up those numbers against bad teams. Sure wish he had stayed healthy, though.
Re: Opting out of bowl gameDon’t need an LT when you’ve got an ED.
