Burger wars, re-visitedModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower
They are 3, 2, 1, and 3 months. Still want those pictures? ![]()
Sampled another burger, and I figured the masses just needed to know the results. Went to Frankie's, a sports bar on McKinney (I forget the cross street, but it's just south of Breadwinners....) Seeing as how I hadn't been there before, and the fact that they did have a burger on the menu, what to order was never a question.
It should have been. The burgers at Frankie's were awful. I even sampled my friend's, just to see if they'd messed up on mine only .... but hers was equally terrible. It was kind of like chewing on a saddle with little pellets of ground-up hockey pucks. The flavor was non-existant and the burger was super-tough, yet somehow it was still greasy enough that it soaked through the bun instantly, making a nasty eating experience into an equally nasty clean-up experience. I'm sure their drinks are OK, but overall it was a collossal waste of time. The drunks at the next table were screaming at passing cars, and the food (including the fries) was terrible. There are countless other places to go instead of this joint. Had Frankie's been on the official Burger Wars list, it would have finished dead last.
The saddle and hockey puck pellets do not make sense. Probably Hockey pads and a puck pellets or perhaps a saddle and shattered polo ball. Sorry to split hairs but I worry about these things. ![]()
I remember that being in the old Underwood's Pit Barbeque building next to Dudley M. Hughes Funeral Home, north of Lida Hooe and east of the Sunset Bisons practice field. That one?
yeah...i think so...drove by there today...but i don't think the funeral home is there anymore. i'll check again when i'm over that way again next week.

D Magazine should have its burger analysis license revojed. The Loon makes a good burger, but there's no way it's better than Uptown. And to pick Milo's over First & 10 is blasphemy. First & 10 is outstanding, and the Milo burgers are horrible.
If anything, I think it's a testament to the variances from day-to-day burger cooking. I don't think you guys ever went to Stan's for your wars, but I walked over and grabbed one to go last night and, as usual, it was pretty damn good.
