Re: Big XIIThe Big XII sucks. And proud new member BYU sucks very, very much.

Re: Big XIIPAC 12/10's survival will be dictated by the Big 10 and possibly by ESPN. I think everyone agrees Notre Dame could be the key to any "next round" of expansion/realignment moves. In this part of the country, I hear from ACC alumni friends there is talk of the ACC pitching a "deal" to Notre Dame for the Irish to become full members AND being allowed to retain their deal with NBC.
The question is whether the Big 10 can make a play for Notre Dame and whether they want to "go really big" by adding Oregon, Washington and possibly enough ACC teams to destabilize the ACC. They would have to do that in concert with the SEC to poach enough ACC teams to work around the current grant of rights that is in place in the ACC. I think the SEC would like to have Clemson and possibly UNC/NCSU or UVA/Va Tech and some of those schools along with Ga Tech could be in play for the Big 10 as well, not to mention the combo of FSU/Miami. If we want to have fun speculating about "going big" scenarios, what about the Big XII and PAC essentially merging to bring their membership to 22 and for the sake of numbers and thinking back to the WAC 16 and pods scenario, why not add 2 more and get to 24 members with 4 pods of 6 teams each to allow more regional rivalries. ESPN could work with that group and have every time zone covered to bring 12-13 hours of college football on Saturdays as well as Thursday and Friday options. Plenty of good rivalry games would exist and the pod winners could stage a playoff to determine the eventual conference championship. As the writer above suggests, SMU and Memphis might add value in that scenario as SMU being in Dallas doesn't hurt and makes the SMU/TCU rivalry more meaningful. Memphis brings good football and basketball and a potential rivalry with Cincinnati (going back to their time as conference mates in the Metro Conference) If nothing else, it gives us something to talk about while we await the opening of SMU's season. A great time of year as we are all optimistic and undefeated!
Re: Big XII
Really poor reflection of the BYU volleyball fan base or at least the fact that one despicable individual was allowed in the arena and apparently allowed to remain far too long. I've had some unpleasant experiences with unruly fans at games I've attended through the years. I remember a football game at Clemson when Tommy Bowden was Clemson's coach and they were losing to Wake Forest (which was a cardinal sin back then) and a guy behind us screaming profanities directed at Bowden. There were families in the area and a couple of us asked the guy to calm down but when he didn't, someone alerted security and he was escorted out (which drew an ovation from fans sitting in the immediate area) If nobody complained about this "fan" and nothing was done, that's really sad.
Re: Big XII
I agree on all this (except Klempson losing to WF wasn’t a sun just back then, it is a sin forever and always) but I will also say, on the positive side, that the best experience I’ve had as a visiting football fan is not even close: Notre Dame. Every single person welcoming and polite. Even after they lost to Duke.
Re: Big XII
This could use a thread of it's own but for me, I took my kids to watch SMU play at Ole Miss years ago and wandered into "The Grove" pre-game. We were all decked out in SMU gear and were greeted warmly (probably having the kids in tow helped?) and I was offered beers and the kids hot dogs and sodas from 2 different groups that day. My son was just starting middle school and hormones were popping so he enjoyed all the young college guys wearing white shirts and ties escorting co-eds who were dressed to kill. He told me on our drive back to Charleston that he might want to go to Mississippi...but he later decided Clemson would serve his purposes.
Re: Big XIIWorst experience ever was the Hog fans in the Cotton Bowl the day Ramon was injured. Only time as an adult I ever came that close to fisticuffs.
Re: Big XII
We had the same experience in South Bend when we played ND there in the mid-eighties. The home fans were ridiculously hospitable, friendly, and knowledgable. Their band even played our fight song for us because ours couldn't make the trip. Sadly, I really wanted to dislike the place but it was a beautiful campus and the best road experience I have ever had.
Re: Big XIIRemarkably Penn State and Marshall get kudos for fan friendliness. Pitt fans would have no doubt gotten a different reception at PSU. But we were offered food and beer. Worst fans UH.

Worst is Ark, then Tech.
Re: Big XIIDon't expect any rose pedals at Maryland. I remember how obnoxious they were at the NCAA soccer semi-finals.
