That plus they need a defensive stopper.
Zhuric has made himself the go to guy and has been impressive of late but forces things that aren't there at times. Nutall just hasn't shot well under pressure and this team can't make FTs under pressure. The defensive pressure and steals are what kept us in this game, especially at the end when WSU couldn't get the ball inbounds after we scored. That's the 13th game decided by 5 points or less. Add a couple of key pieces and this could be a turnaround team next season.
Free throws, free throws, free throws. That killed them. They'd have won the game if they'd shot 80% from the line. 50% doesn't hack it, especially when you miss front ends of 1 and 1's. Not sure what the cure is. Maybe they should start doing the Rick Barry/Wilt Chamberlain underhand toss.
Incompetence at every level, but coaching is the principal villain.
9-17 free throws. Free throws involve focus, practice, discipline and desire - all of which flow from coach to player. It isn't that SMU has bad coaching; it has no coaching.
And how about our buddy Jalen? In 38 minutes he manages 6 points; 2 assists; 4 turnovers; zero rebounds.
He had nothing. He usually has nothing but he had a little bit more nothing yesterday and it was obvious to anyone capable of reacting to light. Brain dead Lanier never moved to replace him.
