Oregon State AD 'livid' over Pac-12 defections

From oregonlive.com:

Oregon State AD Scott Barnes livid about Pac-12 defections: ‘Puts this university in harm’s way’

By Nick Daschel | The Oregonian/OregonLive

“I’m furious.”

Those two words summed up the feelings of Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes, hours after Beavers’ athletics was shaken to its core when Oregon and Washington decided to bolt for the Big Ten Conference.

The move of those two programs left the Pac-12 in disarray. Later Friday, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah reportedly were headed to the Big 12, leaving the four remaining Pac-12 members to figure out what’s next. For Oregon State, is that a retooled Pac-12? Mountain West? Big 12? Something else?

I'd be livid too if I got punted from the PAC to the MWC.

It's amazing how like 6 schools left the PAC-12 in a matter of days for what amounts to about a guaranteed extra $5million more per year guaranteed compared to the crAppleTV deal.

I am thinking that the PAC defections are mostly about "no confidence" in George K.
I would like to think that the schools that left had long ago gone through the finances and implications for their students and alums if they changed conferences - but likely they did not.
I think SMU's best landing place is and was a revamped ACC.
But nothing matters until we are very good in football - which we simply are not.
Lots of talk, lots of promise, lots of exceptions.
We need results - like 11-1 and a conference championship results.

We can certainly be better at football. With that said we have abundant resources and have one of the best locations in all of America. We can literally buy players now. Our alumni need to step up and put their money where their mouth is.

P.S. We offer one of the best educations money can buy.

SDSU has five 10+ win seasons since since 2015, made the NCAA title game in basketball, and was the fabled Pac12 socal media darling. They're still broke and in the MWC.
Memphis made a New Year's Six bowl and they're still in the AAC.

Lots of schools suck at football and are in good conferences. Colorado sucks. Vanderbilt sucks etc etc.

I don't even know what matters anymore. Being blackballed from the Big12 certainly didn't help.

We need several conference championships. I laugh at Tulane fans thinking they are now very desirable after winning a single conference championship after being the worst program in the conference for 10+ years. One single conference championship won't change anything for SMU. We will need to win several like Boise State.

And when we play P5 teams we win some of those games. OU and TCU are our bowl games this year. Win one of those and win the conference, people will notice.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Those games against OU and TCU are definitely "opportunity" games. Too bad they are both road games. Road wins are hard to come by, even when teams are evenly matched and I'm not sure our roster is quite on a par with either of those teams. It's good to at least have a shot at both of them, though. Definitely an opportunity for national media to take notice of SMU

And of course there was the infamous win in Ft Worth under JJ. Hopefully our guys can make a habit of it, but that might also give TCU a reason to come up with some excuse why they can't continue our series!

It will be very interesting to see what happens to Stanford and Cal. I suspect neither would ever join the Big 12 or Mountain West. Perhaps they can convince SDSU and AFA to join them and then petition the ACC to be a Western pod in that conference.

SMU makes infinitely more sense for that idea than AFA.
