LA Tech Game Another Brain FryGiven the forecast, and the 11am start time, the home field stands will be another M*A*S*H event unless they are more prepared. Given the sun at 11am and the reflection off the Pressbox/Mustang Club, please bring a block of ice to sit on in the stands. The seats were too hot to sit on last year, and we had little or no wind. Why in the world isn't this game at night? (i know, TV sets the rules, but don't they want butts in seats??!!)

Re: LA Tech Brain Another Brain FryOur own G5 example of "it's all about the money, not student welfare".
Kids aren't allowed to practice when it's above a certain temperature but they can play a game because ESPNU says so.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryWho will get the blame when there’s not enough water in the stadium?
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain Fry
Little Ricky will get the blame as he should. It's clear what our weather pattern is and great planning needs to be in place. Although there will be far fewer fans for this game, they still need to avoid the TCU disaster that happened last year. There is no grassy knoll to station ice cream and snow cone trucks. I would go as far to say Little Ricky could place SMU in a liable situation if fans suffer heat stroke because they run out of ice, water, etc...Maybe rent "wet cooling fans" that could be placed under the stands for fans feeling faint. https://www.unitedrentals.com/marketpla ... oling-fans Last edited by Insane_Pony_Posse on Mon Aug 21, 2023 9:04 pm, edited 1 time in total.
C-ya @ Milos!
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain Fry
I agree, Little Ricky has over a week at this point to make sure all precautions are in order, and everything should be ready without excuse.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryWe can say with high confidence there will be an Extreme Heat Advisory that day. I'll buy Rick Hart a bucket of chicken at Bubba's if he'll come sit in Section 203 or 204 for the whole game.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryAnother true test for SMU fandom. I remember attending the opener of Ford Stadium vs Kansas and I think it was 107 degrees that day. Certainly helped it was an evening game. Mid day game in Dallas' summer heat screams for dressing appropriately...either covering up or going "bare as you dare" with plenty of sunscreen. As fans sweat it out just remember what the players are suffering and pushing through. Really helps that this SMU roster is as deep as it's been in years because it's likely to be an "all hands on deck" survival contest. Yes, let's hope there is plenty of cold water available and at least several "cooling stations" around the stadium.
La Tech is fortunate to have an 8:00 start for their opener this weekend. That week 2 game @ OU with a 5:00 start is likely to be another scorcher but I assume OU will pack the house for our visit.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryThe first 4 will be over 100. More than half the season will be more than 90.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain Fry
I imagine the La Tech faithful in attendance at our game will be from this area. I doubt many Bulldogs will want to make the trek all the way from Ruston to sit in the desolate inferno that is Ford Stadium. They'll have their choice of seats, though.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryI thought the first game at Ford it was 112.
Lomg time ago. Go Mustangs Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain Fry
I think it got to 109 that day but it was 107 at kickoff? I remember the Kansas people talking about how hot it was in Lawrence and that the heat was not going to bother them. I remember Josh McCown literally playing his guts out that night.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryI think you’re both correct. If I recall (more difficult with each passing year), the kickoff was delayed due to the afternoon heat. Should be interesting this year with no grassy knoll so more will be packed into metal and concrete stands or in the concourses. I’m not an AD basher, but I’d expect that we’d be better prepared this year in terms of fan experience. We want P5 right? We’ve had a year to get this right.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryI'm told that water bottles will be handed out at the entry gates, water bottle refill stations will be available in the concourses, and the restrooms will now be completely air-conditioned. It's better than a kick in the ba!!$, but a night game would still be better.
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryWith temps like this, when are we going to dome the damn thing?
That might improve attendance. Heck even I attend Ranger games now in the nice cool Globe Life. C-ya @ Milos!
Re: LA Tech Game Another Brain FryWeather delay should be the logical thing to do. Lightning kills 20 people a year in the US. Heat kills 1700. We stop games for a thunderstorm but not for a weather condition that kills 80X more
