He is talking about "recruiting in our backyard" and "Dallas is a fertile place for basketball", "this is a basketball state", etc.

We shall see won't we.

This guy was a great hire. I like what I hear. I like what I see from the athletic department. We are moving in the right direction.

I like that he said those things. While I will be the first to admit that I don't think that coaches have much say in where their players go, you still want to keep the best relations possible. Having great DISD relations may not ever soley be responsible for bringing in a top recruit, but every little thing adds up and I want as many positives in our favor as possible. It looks like that is what Doherty wants to do.

Yes, he has to say those things. We will see if those coaches completely blow him off or not. Sounds like he has some influential friends to talk to as well. If you have a NBA player in the locker room, that helps a little bit I would think.

Brought George Lynch to the news conference? I loved him as a player both at Carolina and with the 76ers. How many NBA players did Dement or Tubbs bring to their PC's? Ha!

Doh has access and ties to so many influential players not just from Carolina and Kansas but the NBA as well (i.e., MJ, Stackhouse) that will now be part of our community as well. In my opinion (and I do live in NC!), you can't go wrong with hitching up your wagon to the UNC family!

You can never ignore your own back yard, but Doherty isn't going to be overly dependent upon it. Any H.S. coaches who want to "blow him off" may be soon hoping he doesn't blow them off.

But face it, when UNC is recruiting a player that we're recruiting, those former Tarheels will be wearing Carolina blue not Red and Blue.

True, but how often do our recruits and UNC's get mixed up?? We are on a different playing field...However, when you look at who we DO compete w/ as far as recruits (CUSA schools, TX and Okla schools) this gives us a real advantage in my mind. What do you think?? Getting any NBA and UNC players in our Lr and at our games is big!

There was a rumor going around that had Bamba Fall not signed early with us, he had crept up on UNC's radar. I don't know if we're talking a small blip on the radar, or if he would have been a legitimate recruiting target, but at least they knew the name of a guy who ended up at SMU. (Which is only fair -- we know the name of a couple of guys who ended up at Carolina, too. We just weren't recruiting them.)

Don't you mean there IS a rumor going around now that you started it?
