I don't know which was worse

Post by EastStang »

What Sonny Dykes did to us or what the Aggies Baseball Coach did in taking the UT job the day after the Aggies lost the deciding game of the College World Series?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

The Longhorns taking A&M's JIm Schlossnagel is a bigger deal in the state. The animosity between these two mega-state schools, both now in the SEC, is unmatched.

While Sonny leaving G5 SMU for TCU and the BigXII hurt at the time, we have emerged better with Rhett and our move next week to the ACC.

I swear it must be the Chinese year of the Pony, because everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is going our way. The good luck started the day Sonny took the helicopter ride to the ecru campus. Who said the Frogs don't help us out!!!

I think it is the same exact situation. This time more people care because it involves two state schools instead of two private schools but it is the same.

Has anyone really ever seen Sonny Dykes and the new Texas baseball coach, in the same place at the same time ? I mean he "left" TCU about the same time Dykes traitored over to Fort Worth....

It's a trick question. Neither was worse.

Sonny showed his true colors by bailing for Frogtown, but we're a better program, with a better coach, trending in a better direction and in a better conference. So we win that trade.

On the other side of the equation, unless we see the Cows or Aggies in a bowl game, I couldn't care less about what happens to either.

So one ended up being a good thing for SMU, and the other is absolutely irrelevant to PonyFans.

Sonny was definitely worse though it turned out better for us in the long run. Despite (or because of) all their resources, the aggies are the biggest joke in all of college sports. They have championship delusions but, with rare exception, chronically underperform (except for their dominance in meat judging). At this time, you have to look at the ag's sports programs like you would an occasionally successful FCS school. Good coaches will be hired away. The ags, however, will fire decent coaches due to unrealistic expectations.

As a Mustang fan/alum I could care less about both A&M and UT, but I get a kick out of the Aggies complaining about losing their coach this way. Yeah, the guy is a j@#ck%%%%$$ the way he handled it, but this (unfortunately) is the new state of college athletics.

I looked back at an article dated Nov. 25 where Mike Elko met with his team at Duke and told his them that he would be returning to coach Duke despite the rumors....and of course took the A&M job shortly thereafter leaving his team to fend for itself as it prepared for its bowl game. Anyone hear/read of any "Ags" commenting on that? Of course not....long forgotten and they will just go with the 'ol "but that was different than when UT stole our coach" version of that story.

We have been the victim with Sonny (good riddance), Chad (even better riddance)....and do doubt we will be on the losing end again as we have more and more success. Does feel good to see the Aggies in such distress though.

I don't like what college athletics has become...NIL, transfer portal, etc. has ruined it for me, although I will admit those things have worked to our advantage and helped us stay competitive. Everyone involved is now simply looking for the best deal....players, coaches, ADs....which I suppose is the way of the rest of the world but I miss what college sports once was.

Well said.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I hate to be argumentative, but UT usually steals the under-performer crown from the Aggies most years ΓÇôΓÇô from Vince Young until last year -- a big 'ol stinky cow plop in Austin.

NOBODY has done less with more than the Longhorns.

To be fair, I gave credit to the ags for meat judging though the tortilla flingers from Lubbock did win it 3 years in a row before them. Dynasties do have to come to an end. I have every expectation that both ut and the ags will continue to excel in underachievement.
