Rose Named To Canada’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Roster

DALLAS (SMU) — SMU women's soccer standout sophomore Nyah Rose was named to Canada's FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Colombia 2024 roster, announced by Canada Soccer on Monday.

"We are very excited for Nyah," SMU head coach Nicole Nelson said. "She has worked extremely hard and is very deserving of this opportunity. Any time our player can represent their country on an international stage is a huge sense of pride for our program."

Rose was one of 21 players named to the roster and is the first Mustang to make any team Canada roster since former midfielder Wayny Balata was named to the Canadian Concacaf provisional roster in 2020.

Canada's complete FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Colombia roster can be found here.

The Markham, Ontario native has had a strong start to the 2024 season, scoring a goal in both of SMU's first two matches. She netted her first goal of the year in a 3-0 victory in the season opener against Northwestern State and followed that performance by scoring again in the team's 6-0 win over Texas Southern.

On Aug. 15, Rose was named to the 2024 Hermann Trophy Watch List, which is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year. She was among 44 players named to the watch list and one of only three sophomores to receive the honor.

In her first season on the Hilltop, she earned All-AAC First Team, Co-Rookie of the Year, All-Rookie Team and AAC All-Tournament Team honors last season. She also collected AAC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 18) and AAC Freshman of the Week (Sept. 11) honors.

Rose was only one of two Mustangs to start every game last season as she totaled 1,236 minutes played, two assists, and 24 points in addition to her team-high 11 goals

The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will take place in Colombia from Aug. 31 to Sept. 22. The tournament features 24 nations and begins with round-robin group play.

Canada drew into group B and will face France, Brazil and Fiji. They will begin group play action on Aug. 31, taking on France.

// U-20 WORLD CUP SCHEDULE
Aug. 31 Canada vs France – 3:00 pm CT.
Sept. 2 Fiji vs Canada – 8:00 pm CT.
