Jacob Richman of lonestarlive.com is reporting that former Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is set to visit SMU this weekend.
Head coach Rhett Lashlee has made it clear that Kevin Jennings is the team's starting quarterback going into 2025, but after Preston Stone's transfer to Northwestern, the Mustangs lack a proven veteran who can back up Jennings. Keldric Luster and Tyler Aronson are expected to return next season, when the Ponies also will welcome heralded freshman Ty Hawkins.
Before heading to Madison, Van Dyke started his career at Miami, where he played for Lashlee and backed up current SMU quarterbacks coach D'Eriq King, meaning that if he does indeed end up on the Hilltop, he will be more than familiar with the coaches and the offense. An injury to King allowed Van Dyke to take over; he passed for 2,931 yards and 25 touchdowns on his way to winning the ACC Rookie of the Year award.
In five college seasons, Van Dyke (6-4 / 224) has thrown for 7,891 yards, 23 interceptions and 55 touchdowns.
His time as the Badgers' starting quarterback in 2024 was short-lived: in the third game of the season, he was lost for the year with a torn ACL in his right knee.
