Men's tennis sweeps Boston College to close regular season
WEYMOUTH, MASS. (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis swept Boston College 4-0 at Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass., on Saturday.
SMU won the doubles point in a close battle that saw two tiebreakers. No. 68 Georgi Georgiev and Ofek Shimanov won the first doubles match and No. 52 Louis Cloud and Trevor Svajda clinched the doubles point in a tiebreaker with SMU's second win.
The Mustangs won three consecutive singles matches to win the match 4-0.
How it Went
SMU capitalized on a fast start in doubles play. No. 68-ranked SMU pair Georgiev and Shimanov took the first win of the day on court one against Liam O'Leary and Caleb Saltz (6-3).
Vikas Deo and Noah McDonald fell in a tiebreaker against Aidan Pack and Matthew Overvelde (7-6(7)) as the Eagles evened the doubles standings.
No. 52 Cloud and Svajda clinched the doubles point in another tiebreaker battle against Andrew Ilie and Jake Vassel (7-6(7)).
The Mustangs ran with the momentum in singles play. No. 45 Svajda won against Saltz (6-0, 6-2) on court one to extend the lead for the Mustangs. His first set win was his fourth 6-0 set win of the season.
Noah McDonald made it 3-0 for SMU with a win against Pack on court six (6-3, 6-2).
SMU clinched the sweep as Georgiev defeated Mai Gao (6-0, 6-1) in court four. The freshman won his eighth 6-0 set of the season in the first set.

The Mustangs will take on Virginia Tech in the first round of their inaugural ACC Championship at Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C. on Wednesday. They enter the tournament as the No. 13 seed and the Hokies are the 12th seed.
