Jennings named to Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list

TYLER, Texas (SportTyler/SMU) – SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings was tabbed to the 2025 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at a Texas D1 four-year college.

In the 2024 campaign, Jennings led the Mustangs to their first-ever College Football Playoff (CFP) appearance. Despite it being the team's inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), SMU posted a perfect record in conference play.

The Jennings-led scoring offense was eighth in the nation, averaging 36.5 points per game. The 511 points scored in the 2024 season were the third most in program history. The Oak Cliff native registered 3,245 passing yards in 2024, nationally ranking him 18th in the category. He posted a 171.5 passing efficiency rating against conference opponents, the highest in the ACC.

For his elite performance last season, Jennings was named a finalist for the same award. Coming into the 2025 campaign, Jennings has earned spots on four other watch lists including the Maxwell Award Watch List, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List, the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List and the Manning Award Watch List.
