Anyone catch Charles Barkley's comments on TNT after the Mavericks game last night about Dirk and Auburn?

It seemed very legitimate since Dirk knew what he was going to ask before Charles even asked it.

Barkley told the story of seeing Dirk in Germany during an all star game when Dirk was 19 and unknown. Charles said he had some good players with him there in Germany and Dirk still hung 50 on them. After the game, he offered Dirk any amount of money he wanted to come play for Auburn. Charles kept saying how dead serious he was.

Of course, then it got really funny, because some of his studio mates asked him if that was legal and Charles replied:

"Oh please, this is the SEC...the south is full of crooks....we got Alabama, Georgia and Florida...everyone cheats".

Funny stuff. Auburn better keep Barkley off their recruiting trips.

I heard that, and couldn't believe it. Not that he wouldn't do such a thing, just that he'd say it on TV. I'm sure the athletic officials at Auburn were thrilled to hear that (although if Barkley is as generous with that school as he's reported to be, they're certainly not going to scold him too hard....)

Can you imagine the outcry if an SMU alum made that statement on TV?

no and the funny thing is Auburn has quite a history of trouble with the NCAA itself.

Yup, that's the quote. I was amused, but not surprised.

Reminds me of famous Arkansas alum Bill Clinton for some reason, I can't figure out why? I wonder if Arkansas is offering Hummers to players this year. TransAms are so passe.

It's all about Pick Up trucks in Arkansas. Except for Clinton. He is still driving his El Camino with the Astro Turf in the back. I would talk about who gets and gives the "hummers" but that would get the thread deleted. Pay heed Jtstang.

Some of Clement's statements still make my stomach churn.
