I bet Sam Bennett tells Dad who is for real and who is not. I hope we get a whole bunch of Scots! They are some of the best coached players in the country.

Springtown QB commits to SMU

Springtown quarterback Logan Turner said he has orally committed to SMU. Turner was named the District 12-4A MVP last season at Sulphur Springs, where he passed for more than 5,400 yards and 53 touchdowns the last two seasons.

Turner (6-1, 175), a Class 4A all-state selection the last two seasons, said he chose SMU over TCU, Memphis, Iowa, Northwestern and Arkansas State.

"It's a good place for me and I fit into their offense well," Turner said. "I really like those guys over there. They are on the rise."

Oral commitments are nonbinding. The first day a recruit in the Class of 2007 can sign a national letter of intent is Feb. 7, 2007.

Turner transferred to Springtown last spring after his father, Brad, became the football head coach. Brad Turner had spent the last five seasons as the coach at Sulphur Springs.

Why? For every Art Briles who successfully makes the jump from HS to college, there are many who don't pan out. Scott Smith won a ton of games at HP, too, but he hasn't exactly turned into Bobby Bowden.

Anything specific about Randy Allen's coaching that makes you think he'd work at the next level? I've only seen HP a couple of times, I admit, but it seemed he ran a gimmick offense, and I have no way of knowing if it would translate to the college level.

I don't want him as a HC, but I'd like to see him as a coordinator. As for a "gimmick offense," the offense is only as good as it adjusts to the defense. And he's a master at that.

Plus, getting Randy Allen on the SMU staff would give SMU a direct pipeline to a neighboring school which just happens to have an amazing tradition of being one of the strongest teams in the state year in and year out.

he is a bloody lineman.. I don't give a rats [deleted] what kind of 40 he runs..

the fact is that he is undersized.. 250 or 260 is not big enough.. but he is an HP kid so that means he has a great work ethic and knows how to win..

now if you wanted to say "hey, he isn't big enough for the OL, but has some wheels and plays basketball, then you can talk about his 40 time"

Other than that .. Who cares what a OL and DT runs the 40 in.. you will never see them run a freaking forty.. EVER

I can't disagree more, the 40, along with the verical jump is one of the key indicators of overall athleticism for a big man. I don't want a tub of lard that can't move.

You say this after watching SMU football for the past 17-18 years? I have seen a lot of linemen try to run a forty after the opposing defense has forced a turnover, in the ten short years I have watched this program.
