about to answer my own question, and then ask a new one....
Plays for the Northwestern St. Demons and played more than half the games.....was
31-51 for a grand total of 302 yards, 1 TD and 1 Int. (per espn.com)

How heavily recruited was the 6-2 212 pounded QB?

Well, he was a three star Rivals recruit and a Rivals Texas Top 100. Not sure what offers he had.

I do remember we were the first to offer Meeks and BEnnett told the story that he offered him a week after Bennett took the job. He committed early, but I said that before. Still, he had other offers, I think.

FYI, Meeks was also the punter and Norhtwestern State would put him in on 3rd and 4th down to do quick kicks and fake punts (maybe that makes him the perfect Bennett QB). He only saw "real" QB duty in one or two games. He doesn't look like he'll start this year, either.

Dallasblog's Dave McNabb's comments on Turner...

Springtown QB Logan Turner has committed to sign with SMU. Turner (6-0, 170) has had a strong summer at college camps. At the NIKE Training Camp at Texas A&M in April, he was among the six finalist in the passing competition. Here's the dallasblog.com from April 23:

Turner is at Springtown when his dad, Brad, left the head coaching job at Sulphur Springs. Turner gets the “Next Drew Brees Award” with a deadly accurate, strong-arm at 6-0.

I would say that I was prophetic, but some things are just too predictable.

Don't be dissin' sunshiners! What some folks on here seem to take a while grasping is that realism and rooting for one's team are not mutually exclusive. And, while there's certainly a lot of value to the idea that we shouldn't be walking around pretending that SMU football hasn't been sharply trending downwards since our deserved -- but magnified by self-flagelation -- hangover from our "glory days" of the early 80's, it's the simple hope and enthusiasm of the common fan we need more than daily, repetitive, nonstop selective realism. It's both funny and sad that you even have to defend that viewpoint on a fan forum!

A few comments on Stallion, BTW, since he's the flag bearer for the realism movement on this board. For the SMU fan who's simply looking to unconditionally root one's team on, he's not an easy guy to like because he seems to *revel* in our misfortunes. Plus he comes across in writing -- never met him face to face -- as a smug, condescending s.o.b. who is pathologically unable to publicly admit the remote possibility that he might ever be wrong about anything. (He's *never* admitted any such thing in the years I've been reading his stuff. Never). That is sad for him personally and bad for SMU. But he's got solid, valuable opinions based on facts. As long as you don't let those selective facts turn you into a bitter, puckered up, sour puss of a fan. Unfortunately, that's the effect of his constant drumbeat of selective realism.

GO SMU!

For what its worth, my relatives, who had heavily involved at A&M, told me last weekend that we got a good QB commitment. So there are at least some people in aggieland who hold him in high regard.

Unfortunately, Jason...the opinion of your relatives isn't worth much....

If he was held in 'high regard', how come he hasn't gotten any other offers????

Jason, not trying to bust your chops, but once again, if he did indeed show well at camp why didn't that translate into any offers?

There is a lot of Rah Rah on this Board...me; I want to see meaningful offers from other schools...

Am I wrong to say the majority of athletes we have signed over the past 2 now going on 3 years have not received any other legitimate offers??

That is an ominous sign no matter how you want to spin it.

"Ominous sign"...come on SoCal_Pony...this is college football, not life or death. Why do some of us feel the need to bash every recruit we get commitments from? Sometimes the highly rated don't pan out and sometimes the lowly rated turnout to be jewels. I don't think our coaches are out there getting commitments from just anybody so they can say they are getting commitments. Yes, UT is going to get the highest rated palyers...big surprise...but, it is still early and there are a lot of good players out there to work on and none of us really know who we are recruiting. We are not yet to that point in time when one has to scrape the bottom of the barrel, so have a little faith that the coaches know what they are doing. Justin Rogers is a perfect example of a kid that initially might have looked like a mistake given his size etc., but filled out nicely. No, our coaches are not perfect...nor are they total idiots either.

Meeks came in for quick kicks and fake punts? Where were your season tickets to the Demon's games? Dont just make [deleted] up and put it on here. Meeks did not punt this last year. He was back up to the Demons sr. QB. He was used often and a pretty good group of alums were vocal in his being given the starting job during the season. Meeks will be starting for Northwestern State this year. Yes, he had several offers after giving SMU the nod. The transfer worked out well for both SMU and Meeks. Now, Blog, if you make up stuff like that on something that people know about, how much can we believe you on the rest of the HORSE crap you post.

That is funny coming from someone with 3,313 posts...but I digress...

PK, my intent is not to bash any kid...truth is these kids who attend SMU and graduate with real degrees are undoubtedly of a higher quality than most NCAA FB players...

But the fact is most of them are not getting quality offers and that is not a good sign for this football program.

I hate it when people counter by using UT as an example. Please tell me one yo-yo on this board who thinks we can compete with UT???? Nobody, so please stop using them as an example. Instead, how about UTEP, TCU, Baylor and an occasional TTech / OSU / Missouri / Kansas / K-State / Iowa State…those Big XII locales are all s*holes and we should win some of those battles.

You use Justin Rogers as an example…I use him as well and I win the argument. Because for every Justin we have signed there are countless others who didn’t pan out. Proof is in our W-L record over the past 17 years. Proof is in our W-L record over the past 4 years…

People say things are turning the corner. Let’s see…I am convinced PB was 3 games away from receiving his pink slip last year. Going into that Rice game he was 8-35 lifetime. That is justification in most people’s books.

And DandyFan...how did the Meeks transfer work out well for SMU?
