Shouldn't matter. Wouldn't have hurt a thing to say 'here's wishing a 8-4 or better season for the Ponies.' It's the hometown team.

No comparison, really.... U of Arkansas is ALL you got up there. Any other D-IA programs I don't know about?
Arkansas State. UALR competes D1 in Basketball. It actually is a very good comparison. The only reason that you think it is the only one is because it is the only one that is written about. I wonder why. Oh yeah. Those pesky profits for the share holders.

Maybe Sherrington doesn't like SMU and isn't wishing that. You want the columnists to be liars just so SMU can get a mention?
Frankly, I'd rather SMU get mentioned on its own merits. Apparently the DMN feels that way too, since SMU gets all the coverage it merits.

In the Jonesboro, Arkansas paper (home of ASU), who do you think gets more ink, more human interest stories on a daily basis? ASU or Uof A? My bet is ASU.
You want comaprisons. Check out the Daily Campus. More about SMU or UT. There is your comparison to the Ark Dem Gaz and a Jonesboro publication. Oh, and by the way, Jonesboro people think UA gets all the ink.

We don't have the players to compete on a national level. Ford failed to raise our recruiting profile. We have the players to be mediocre with an easy schedule.

Attaboy, shoot for the moon.
I'm guessing the "Aim High" mantra of the Air Force Academy scared some away from applying.

Nope. This year, we turn it around - it's a breakout year.

Why shouldn't DMN columnists want SMU to do well? Give 'em something to do closer to home. My, my, these guys wouldn't like a Top Ten team a stone's throw from their offices?
I've never understood why they wouldn't WANT to promote the hometown team. AND DON'T TELL ME IT'S NOT THEIR FRICKIN' JOB. They promote the big boys all the live long day.

It's not their fricking job to promote anybody. If they report on the big boys more often, it's because the big boys make for good reading, and little wannabes with losing records don't.

They could write about how terrible we are for getting DPd in '86 and how we're gonna get it again if we aren't careful, and how we might as well stop now... I'm sure some people would enjoy it.
