How is Basketball Recruiting going?Hello,
I am new to PonyFans. I've been visiting this site for a while now, but finally decided to join. I am really excited about basketball with Coach Doherty on board. Does anyone know how we are doing on recruiting? I looked at Rivals and they have their Top 150 for Class of 2007. I saw that these players have medium interest in SMU: B.J. Holmes Ronnie Moss D'walyn Roberts Kris Richard Anthony Randolph If anyone has any other information, I would greatly appreciate it!
Some ACC boards have mentioned seeing him at the ABCD AAU camp in New Jersey (both days 1 and 2) this week. Did not say which players he seemed to be focusing on. There are 2 or 3 camps (ABCD, Nike) going on at present and he (and assistants) may be shuttling/splitting time between those.
July is a huge month in bball recruiting so I suspect we will know a lot more re targets by July 31
"Coaches in the Gym – Norm Roberts, Dave Laitao, Bill Self, John Calipari, Bruce Weber, Matt Doherty, Bobby Gonzalez, Fred Hill, Roy Williams, Jay Wright, Billy Donovan, Chris Chaney, Tim Thomas (not the 6-foot-10 one)."

It's the camps like that, in that company, that can reap some benefit for SMU. I can't remember which player it was, but a couple of years ago TTech's starting point guard began as a recruited walkon...BKnight's son was at a similar camp looking for a PG, and several people pointed out the would-be Red Raider, that he was such a player that someone should take a shot at him.
Per rivals:
B.J. Holmes Point guard Houston (Hastings), Texas 5-10, 160 3.0 GPA SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: Baylor, Charlotte (offer), Florida, Georgia Tech, Houston, Illinois, Kentucky (offer), Miami, Michigan (offer), Nevada, Oklahoma, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M (offer), Villanova Ronnie Moss Guard 6-2, 190 Fort Worth (North Crowley), Texas SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: SMU (offer), Utah (offer), Auburn, Boston U., Oklahoma, South Florida, UTEP D'walyn Roberts Forward 6-7, 185 Duncanville (Duncanville HS), Texas AAU: Dallas Mustangs SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: Baylor (offer), Illinois, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech (offer), USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia Kris Richard Guard 6-5, 165 3.14 GPA, 1190 SAT SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: Arizona State (offer), Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Rice (offer), SMU (offer), Texas A&M, Virginia (offer), Wichita State (offer) Anthony Randolph Center 6-10, 210 SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: Arizona, Baylor (offer), Connecticut, Duke, Georgetown (offer), Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky (offer), Louisville (offer), Memphis (offer), North Carolina (offer), Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas (offer), Texas A&M, USC (offer), UCLA, Wake Forest SMU! SMU! SMU!
Wow...Medium interest from 5 Top 150 players, Signing 1 or 2 of these guys would be huge. Doherty is a good recruiter, I am sure that he can do the job, if anyone gets any updates on any of these players please post.
Thanks. GO PONIES!!!
DeAndre Brown (Ft. Worth Dunbar), 5'11" 165 lb. point guard, committed to University of Texas - Arlington earlier this week. He had expressed interest in SMU along with U.T., A&M, Georgia Tech, Univ. of Houston, Oklahoma State and San Diego State University.
Brown is participating in the Great American Shootout in Denton this week which attracts recruiters from around the state and the country.
D'walyn Roberts
Forward 6-7, 185 Duncanville (Duncanville HS), Texas AAU: Dallas Mustangs SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: Baylor (offer), Illinois, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech (offer), USC, Vanderbilt, Virginia Kris Richard Guard 6-5, 165 3.14 GPA, 1190 SAT SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: Arizona State (offer), Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Rice (offer), SMU (offer), Texas A&M, Virginia (offer), Wichita State (offer) Are those weights accurate?
I saw this on Rivals:
D'walyn Roberts- Scored 13 points on 6 of 14 shooting and hit his one free throw attempt. He also grabbed an impressive 7 rebounds. Still quite thin, Roberts played a much more aggressive style of basketball than he played last summer. He was also a disruptive force defensively with his length and his improved foot speed. Roberts listed Texas, Wake Forest, Texas Tech (offer), Texas A&M (offer) and Baylor (offer) as his top schools.
Randolph is the class of this list. He transferred from Arkansas to Woodrow Wilson last year. He's a national top 10 player. His game reminds me of UT's incoming freshman Kevin Durant.....long, thin, with a nice shot and a huge upside. But as you can see, we are fighting the biggest of the big boys for his one year of college basketball.
