Malone still Committed!

Postby Ponymon » Wed Jul 12, 2006 9:21 am

From Rivals:

"I'm still committed," Malone said. "It's close to home and my family, and it's a great education. The new coaching staff is nice, and they're straight-forward and didn't hide anything from me."

Malone said that he has been assured by Matt Doherty that his scholarship is still there for him. To provide further assurance, Doherty and/or one of his assistants were on the sidelines at practically every DFW Select game.

Malone didn't disappoint his future coaches either, as he often also drew a crowd of other coaching staffs. He played tough in the post, but also shot it well from beyond the arc, and took it aggressively to the hole where he'd often finish with the jam. He's been known as a hard worker and it's all starting to pay off.

Getting fired up again about this kid. I like the fact that other coaches are all over him, and the fact that even at his height he can drill a 3. Can't wait to see him at SMU.

This is good news. I believe he was bumped up from a Rivals two star to a three star in the last few months. Apparently, the interest in him was picking up.

This is from the 7/11 report on Rivals titled "No Move for Malone"....

What a difference one year can make. At the Denton Great American Shootout, Alex Malone was a prime example. The lanky 6-foot-8, 190-pound forward was one of the tournament's better performers, showing great versatility with his play. Malone had committed to SMU in January, but since then the coaching staff has changed. So as they witnessed his great play, the college coaches on the sidelines wondered - was Malone still a pledge to the Mustangs?

6-8 and 190? So he's six inches taller than I am and .... let's just say he's lighter than I am.

Bet he's quicker than I am, too.

Malone is one of the fastest rising prospects of the summer. He's put on weight (I'd say about 205) and improved every aspect of his game. He is really much more aggressive on offense. Alot of other schools are noticing and getting involved, Doherty may have to work hard to keep him.

Sloan also looked strong when I saw him, I dont know if SMU is still in the picture with him.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
