The Beta chapter was shut down by the national chapter. SMU didn't kick them off.

Thanks for the insult, but you seem to miss the fact that it was your brothers that got the chapter shut down -- not me. Aim your animosity elsewhere.

My fraternity had so many members tossed out by the national organization so often, I lost count. The school itself never had a word to say about it. All the University ever did was build us a new house that didn't smell.

My animosity? I'm not mad at all...i got my 4.5 years out of it. Now back to SMU's involvement, I know the school didn't actually kick them off, but they had a huge hand in it. While I was there we had multiple meetings with Caswell and members of nationals. SMU wanted us off campus since we were sued in 2001.

I am goin to bet that in 15-20 years the fraternity system will be cut in half... why do you ask?

b/c they will really be a social money club, not that they are not that now.. With more kids getting hurt at parties, lack of house parties, and insurance skyrocketing... only the normal smu rich kid will be able to join...

what happens is a kid gets hurt at a house party in colorado, well the insurance of that national fraternity then tells the rest of the houses across that nation that they cannot do that party or event at that party anymore anywhere and if they do then the insurance will drop them.

also with the cracking down of underage drinking and house parties, when they(underage drinking and house parties) do occur and the cops bust them and give out 20 violations the house (well my old frat) gets put on level 2 insurance which then drives the cost per member up and depletes the house social fund.

so basically as long as college kids keep making stupid decisions (which will happen) the insurance will be so high that kids will end up paying a lot of money just be in a fraternity.
( i paid about 2500 a semester but i also lived in the house, non house livers paid about 1000 a semester) we were also on level two insurance my entire sr year.

When you insult people and curse in the same post, you're angry. Whether or not SMU wanted you off-campus or not is irrelevant. Your national chapter determined that they were not representing the fraternity properly, and put an end to it -- SMU didn't call them and tell them to kill the chapter. Without the acts committed by the brothers, there would be no merit -- but there would be a chapter.

Ok, you aren't understanding. Let me put this in lehman's terms for you. Trumustangp said it perfectly, the greek system is on its way out at smu. Not only are are they becoming insurance issues, but they are also a large liability for the school. Do you remember the water drinking hazing? Or were you at school yet? Sounds like you are kinda young and don't know how it used to be. Anyways, that kind of story is a huge black eye to the school. Administration is just waiting for reasons to get fraternities off campus. They "have a hand in it" by writing fraternities up more often for things that would get brushed under the rug before. These write ups lead to run-ins with Nationals. Get it?

Mustang1412 is exactly why I have an acute disdain for fraternities.
