Holy crap -- we're getting Baylor talk and bandsmack from a high school student?
Kidding, butitan -- you're a good addition to our site, and congratulations on the section leader gig. And, if you're still in high school, you still have time to come to your senses and come to SMU instead of Baylor High.

BUTitan,
You need to get on the list with the Mustang Band for the Mustang Band Experience. This is a day where high school students come to SMU in the late morning, practice with the Mustang Band and then perform at a basketball game that evening. Make sure the Mustang Band directors have your high school information and they will make sure your school gets the information. All you have to do is make sure your band director puts the poster on your bulletin board.
The experience is held sometime in Frebruary when there are no UIL competitions. We don't have a date yet, because we don't know the basketball schedule.
I almost forgot. In the true tradition of high school bands, the Diamond M Club provides pizza for all who participate.
Just send 'da money.

Isn't there a seperate forum somewhere else for Band Talk or maybe move this to General. I believe that recruiting is reserved for Athletes that are being recruited and not Artists that play with an instrument.

The title clearly states this is a band related thread. If you don't want to read about band "recruiting", then don't read a thread with a band title.
I don't think this is a "general" topic. The band is highly associated to sports, so maybe this thread should be on the football, recruiting and basketball forums, since the band relates to all.
Nuff said.

Using the logic that the band is at all major sporting events, should discussions related to soft drinks and popcorn be in all all 3 sports related sports boards. Also, if SMU looks to replace its current concession vendor would that fall under recruiting as well?

At my school its like a band performance with a football game around it. You should see the crowds clear after halftime.

It is the same where my kids go to school. Wait till halftime is over and then you can move to the 50 yard line. I watch allot of high school football and have never understood why the football team has a certain amount of time to play in. Where as the band gets as long as it takes to play what ever it is for that week. I know that at the collage level you only get a certain amount of time. Why can't they take this rule to the high schools. I would be allot happy if they did. Last time I check it was called a football game, not a band performance. I know you think that I would be allot more understanding if my son played in the band and not on the football team. I think I would still be the same: I came to watch a football game.

There is a time limit in high school for halftime.

No I think it's 15 minutes per band actually. I would know, we've gotten a penalty called on our band (they had a parents' night activity and it carried on a little too long)

We had 12 to completely field and de-field the entire band, auxiliary and all.
