Who is going to TECH for the opener?

Postby rogershealy » Wed Aug 02, 2006 8:23 am

I am about to book my flight. Where is everyone staying? How do we get tickets?

I would love to see a great group of SMU fans for the first game of the season.

If anyone has any info on the weekend, please email me ---

We have 6 going..

I'm going with my husband (Tech alum), plus my dad and stepmom are coming from Kansas. We drive out on Friday night. If you aren't worried about the swankiness of the hotel, Days Inn can't be beat for location - right across the street from Jones SBC stadium. However, rooms fill up fast -- we booked our rooms months ago. For big games (like Texas) we booked last fall when we were there for games.

We have also stayed at the Sheraton Four Points, and a Residence Inn out on the loop before -- but if you are out on the loop you probably need a car.

We should have chartered a Southwest plane to fly to Lubbock so we wouldn't have to spend the night out there.

I will be making the trip to Lubbock. I spoke with someone at the Mustang Club today and they are finalizing the details for the trip and they plan to send a mailer out to Mustang Club members by the end of this week.

There will be a pre-game tailgate party for us Mustangs. It will be free, but reservations will be required.

They are also working out the details for a Tulane trip, too.

I just booked my flight. Going Friday morning, coming back Sunday afternoon.

I plan on filming the sequel to Old School while I'm there.

To those of you going to the Texas Tech game, I hope you have a safe and pleasant trip. We have decided to skip this game. The last SMU v Texas Tech game in Lubbock had to be the WORST college gameday experience we have ever had. I can put up with rude, obnoxious, drunk and downright inconsiderate fans of the opposing team on my own. But I refuse to subject my 13-year old daughters and wife to it, if at all possible. And the attitude of those same Red Raider fans in Dallas the following year was just as bad. SBC Jones Stadium can sink in the sand, for all I care. Again, safe travels to all of you that are going. I'll be watching/listening here in Dallas. And praying for a victory by the Mustangs over the Red Raiders.

Sorry to hear that. Was it the worst gameday atmosphere you have ever been in?

What's the difference between 'gameday experience' and 'gameday atmosphere'? As I said, it's not something that I wish to subject my daughters to again.

MM65, that concerns me. It'll me & my three year old who shouts "go ponies" and holds up pony ears any time he hears Peruna (which is any time my cell phone rings). We're flying on Continental.

I used to think the "roll call" threads were pretty hokey...but go to Raiderpower.com and look at their thread about who's going to their TCU game. It's pages of people who buy 5, 10, 15 tickets. Crazy.

Btw, it won't be the most hostile environment the little one's been to. When he was 5 months old, he sported a Mike the Tiger costume in the Georgia Dome to watch the SEC champ. game and watch the future nat'l champs beat them dawgs.

I understand. I was just trying to figure out if it was just the fans or if you had problems with parking, accomodations, etc. But, I can see how I was unclear. :D

I plan on resurfacing to the general public and attending this game. Per usual, waiting until the last minute to finalize anything.

RGV: Sounds like your 3-year old is a tough little tyke. Don't let my concerns keep you from attending, though. 13-year old girls - both SMU fans - are in a tough time of their life already. No need to make it any worse.

HEY! My cell phone does the same "Peruna" ring! GO MUSTANGS! BEAT THE HELL OUTTA TECH!

I don't know how old MM1965's daughters are, but I hope they don't know that Dad rolls thru campus checking out cheerleading camp...
Just my two cents.
