Female caller just said on Mark Davis talk show (WBAP 820AM DFW) that she knows for a fact a car dealer in Dallas is paying SMU football players.
Said she was an eye-witness and everybody knows about it....
Whether it's true or not - where the hell is this coming from??
Immediately prior, another female referenced SMU cheating in the 80s, when discussing OU.
I think we may be under some sort of assault, folks.
Is this why Fraley and others were at the media day?

It is OK to pay college atheletes for work performed. If a Dallas car dealer has hired football players for summer jobs and paid them appropriate wages for work performed, that is not a violation.
In the OU case, Bomar was paid $18,000 for 5 hours work per week. If he worked 12 weeks, that is a total of 60 hours or $300 per hour for parking cars. That is the violation in the OU case.
Just because someone saw a football player being paid by a car dealer, doesn't mean that we are violating NCAA rules. I wouldn't worry too much about someone calling into a talk radio show about seeing an SMU football player getting a pay check.
Just send 'da money.

If SMU is paying players, we should get a refund!

If Blackistone was at media day, I would worry. Fraley is that rare combination of columnist that is both lazy and an idiot.

The on-line directory shows Steve-O's e-mail address to be [email protected]. Nobody on this board can do anything. New topic: football season is coming up!

Thank you, sir. All please note my spelling error, and I am sorry for any confusion it caused any folks possessing the same level of reading comprehension as mr. pony here.

May have been true in past years, but what if SMU does have the kind of year many people are anticipating? Don't you think it'll raise a few eyebrows? As sad as it is and as wrong as it is, SMU will never be able to be successful without someone alleging some form of wrongdoing. My hope is that the program can persevere despite that fact.
