I think it will be too difficult to drop out of DI, especially given the 11k+ season ticket sales, the 27k+ in average attendance last year, plus the bowl win.
I say they offer a life-line, but in doing so place conditions on the program that will make it difficult to recruit and therefore will lead to Tulane’s ultimate demise.

I take that as good news for SMU for a couple reasons. First, it avoids precedent being set or implied that a small, private school in the south can thrive without athletics. Second, Tulane would be a great member of any regional league that falls out of the realignment. Third, if Tulane fell by the wayside, I think it would have been increasingly possible that CUSA could have been the survivor of the BE/CUSA merger because they wouldnt have had to kick out members.
