See you at Saturday's scrimmage

Postby mr. pony » Fri Aug 18, 2006 1:07 pm

Hey, let's all show up for this scrimmage and show the team we give a d*mn.

It's 7 p.m. Saturday. Make an effort and get there!!!!!!!

A big crowd will show Dallas there's something to get excited about on the Hilltop.

Come on!!!! This team deserves it!

I am in town and looking forward to it. However, I guess we will only see Slater and Johnson at QB. That planters wort should keep Willis out for at least a week.

Wouldn't miss it for the world.
Any legs to the suggestion of a preseason tailgate, too? If we can drink on The Boulevard, I'll be there by 4.

A death in the family will prevent me from attending but I will be there in spirit. Hope it's a good scrimmage with no injuries and a good showing by the Mustangs. And I hope everyone who attends has a great time! GO MUSTANGS!

Good crowd

Postby tristatecoog » Sat Aug 19, 2006 10:29 pm

I was at the game with my two kids. I didn't have a roster but #8 and #20 (Martin and Kinkaide) really stood out to me. The punter boomed a couple. There was a solid crowd there. My daughter said, "Daddy there are a lot of people here." I'd estimate a couple thousand but people came and went pretty freely.

#12, #14? and #16 seemed to take most of the snaps at QB. None of them made me go "wow!", like Kevin Kolb does at UH. Even as a freshman, Kolb was dominant.

So, defense looked good, return game, and the running backs. Good building blocks. After all, UT's #3 in the nation and their QB hasn't started a game yet.

#20 Mapps showed moves all right.
#8 DeMyron showed some power and made a circus catch in the end zone.
#23 Cedric Dorsey had a couple good, tough runs.
#33 _______? Busted a long one up the middle all the way.
#43 Johnnie Fitzgerald scored once, I believe on a short run.

Only a couple of deep balls thrown. DBs all over them. I think Bobby Chase hauled one fairly deep one.

Defense looked tough. Got a couple of picks. Carrington returned one for a TD.

QBs missed their targets too much.

#16 Justin Willis played a lot; not sure if he had the surgery yet or not.
Wasn't limping at all.

Very good crowd. Maybe 3,000? I went to one about 5 years ago and their weren't more than 75 people there.

Crowd was a lot better than I expected it to be. I got there two hours early and was expecting to see only about 100 more people show up but I was proven wrong. Very good crowd.

On the QB situation, was a lot more impressed with Slater than I was with Willis, surprisingly. Willis just seemed to continue to throw high pass after high pass after high pass. Some were dead on but seemed to be I was groaning at a lot more high passes than saying good job on a dead on pass.

Good Lord, I didn't realize the punters were that good. #15 easily kicked a 70+ yarder today. The field goals, however, need a little work but not much.

I don't know how I feel about a couple things though. Especially the two straight blocked punts....to be happy or worried about that.

Surprisingly, the heat wasn't that much of a factor to me atleast. Perfect time for the scrimmage...even felt a few rain drops (maybe that was my imagination but I swear I did LOL).

Either way, this only makes me even more ready for September!'

O BTW, Anyone know what happened late in the scrimmage with the little fight incident? I'm pretty sure it was Vincent Chase that got sent off, couldn't see who he was fighting with.

#15 - Thomas Morestead from Pearland, TX.

Question: what the heck is the deal with Ryan Wolcott? Set records at Highland Park. Has yet to see any PT at SMU to my knowledge.
