Let's not forget after the long punt return for a 1st down on the Tech 25 yard line. There was a mix-up between the center Poynter, and Willis, the snap hit Willis on his knees, and he had to fall on the ball for a huge loss. That was on third down, and we had to try a 49 yard field goal into the wind that was a little short. Mercy........I almost forgot about the three motion penalties in a row, after we had a little drive going. Tech's last TD came when they went for it on 4th down. SMU could have made it closer than the final score.
Well...that is my point. First, Willis was distracted by the sideline yelling...then we go for a field goal! Why not try a fourth and ten when were down three plus touchdowns? No one would have expected us to succeed, but if we had, that would have boost the team's spirits. At least we would have given the appearance of trying to win. Three points doesn't do anything, but boost the confidence of the kicker--an of course that didn't work. Going for three is nothing but waving a white flag! By the way, I didn't see any wind at the time, the goal post flags were hanging still I believe.
..I guess if we didn't expect to win, the team did not either..what a joke. "I would have felt better if we would have scored at least one TD", this is the thought process around here now?? Just give me one TD coach, just one!! 35 to freakn' 3 PEOPLE!! 10 first downs!! We got our arses KICKED! It just bugs the crap out of me that we are so accepting of this now...sad sad sad state of our program / fandom. Somebody tell Secules and Koerner to move over, the Orsini bus is about to take on a new passenger. This is the same team we had in 1996, 2001, 2004, 2005, etc., etc...as my bro Harry S. used to say...The Buck Stops Here..Coach B just aint' getting it done....YES!! there is somebody out there that can...totally disgusted.
Mex, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see how a coach yelling instructions from the sideline can cause a fumble on the field. If that's really the case, we might as well just give the starting job to Duke, cause it doesn't matter.
So you got your tickets to the North Texas game I see. ![]() ![]()
I don't know about no expectations. But expecting anything more than we got out of the team on Saturday was not a good idea. I do expect to beat North Texas. And we ought to be 3-1 going into conference. I will be a little disappointed if that doesn't happen. But neither too high nor too low is a good philosophy to have. If you're the author of that idea then you deserve a lot of credit.
..there ya go Ponyboy.....SMU Footbal: Complete Vanilla Mediocrity Since 1986. SMU Football: Be Happy with 3 SMU Football: Hey, What Did You Expect? SMU Football: Treading Water Since 1986, and HAPPY About it..........sad.
A cogently argued point by an obvious master of the English language.
So do tell, dear "Ford to Tolbert," what score did you expect from your school on the road at a Big 12 team with a legitimate shot at the conference title this year?

Say that to that guy from Tech that got stabbed.
I'm sorry PB, I was under the impression we were a "bowl team", I was under the impression we were vastly improved, had some wild MO from last season..my bad. I guess I need to adopt jtstangs approach...."We're #109 until proven otherwise"....how was that, pray tell?
I think his appraoch is closer to we are no 117 until proven otherwise, and I have to admit that approach as left me much less stressed.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
