NTSU Prediction Thread

Postby BRStang » Sun Sep 03, 2006 9:14 pm

Having no firsthand knowledge about how either team looked this weekend, I'll base my arbitrary guess for the NTSU game based strictly on the anecdotes from this board, the box scores and the highlights on ESPN showing UT mow its lawn with the green genes  :

SMU 24, NTSU 13
D-Mart w/ 26 carries for 120 yards, 1 TD
Fitz and Mapps combine for 105 yards
B. Chase and R. Pellerin with a TD each

Hedge Bet: If SMU loses, Orsini fires Bennett before Varsity finishes playing (Just kidding :) ).

SMU a cinch win, but low score

Postby Sam I Am » Sun Sep 03, 2006 9:27 pm

SMU will win. What is the point spread on this game? The ponies should be no more +7 points in this game until they find a scoring offense this year.

all I'm going to say is that the CUSA West is a lot closer-by a mile-to the Sun Belt than the CUSA West is to the Big 12 South. A 1 point victory would be fine with me. I do think we will find a way to win though because they won't be able to take advantage of our weakness(DBs) and our strenth(DLM) will neutralize their strenth(running game). We match up well with NTSU.

SMU -4.5

If I didn't learn a long time ago never to bet on SMU for anything, I might just take SMU and the points.

I think the Mustangs win, scoring one TD and 3 FGs. 16-10.

If our hopes come to fruition, NTSUA&I has a shot at o-fer nonconference. Isn't Akron one of their nonconference games? The Zips hung with Penn State for a good while.

I think our defense is better than they appeared last night because of the Tech offense. I think our defense will basically shut down NTSU. Now our offense is another story looking completely disorganized despite improved talent. I hope alot of it was just a much improved Tech defense which will probably be their best defense in years. One thing for sure, if we have any kind offense we should have a blow out game against NTSU. Otherwise if it is close we may have onother long season. Remember, Tulsa beat NTSU 52-3 last year at Denton and my UT freinds said NTSU looked worse this year in their opener.

The NTSU offense came to life when UT put in their second string. Assuming our first string is defense is as good as UT's second string (a big assumption I know), NTSU ought to score some points against us. Now their defense looked horrible and Texas cut it to ribbons. So, I suspect that we'll win in a higher than usual scoring game.

That is just a lack of playing time and not yet having a feel for the game.

the second string Texas defense would kick SMU's [deleted]. Sorry there is that much discrepancy between the talent on SMU's offense and the talent on UTs Second String Defense.

Amen, Stallion. Couldn't care how many points we win by, just that we win. Repeat that 7 or 8 times, and then let's get a 1-point win in a bowl.

..after Saturday's Lubbock performance..I expect us to have our hands COMPLETELY full v. NTSU....a one point win, a 16-10 w, as someone suggested, would be sad.........we NEED to beat NTSU something like 45-10. BEAT SAM and Arkie State by like scores..emerging from these first four at 2-2 or 1-3, or squeking by for w's puts Coach B in the passenger seat, next to Secules, on the bus out o town.

this series with UNT was renewed for two reasons: it's a game of some local interest so it should be well attended...and it's a game SMU SHOULD WIN. What are we...27-3 all time vs NTSU/UNT? Unfortunately, I agree with those who say this will be a close game. This SMU team isn't ready to dominate anyone...and certainly not on the road. Let's just get out of Denton with a W please. I'd love to see it, but really don't expect us to blow out UNT, SHSU or Ark St. Hope I'm wrong because this schedule was put together to give the guys some confidence and a winning record heading into CUSA play

I agree. Hopefully Bennett is capable of understanding this dynamic and can fire up the team. If not, be prepared for that awful "kick to the nads" feeling this time next week.
