Josh LeRibeus in today's DMN

Postby PonySoprano » Fri Sep 01, 2006 9:52 am

There is a picture of SMU Commit Josh LeRibeus on the front page of today's DMN Sports Day as part of a story about how high school offensive linemen have increased in size over the last 10-20 years.

Quote from the article:
Richardson Berkner coach Jim Ledford marvels about guard Josh LeRibeus, a 6-4, 340-pound SMU recruit, being his fastest linemen in chute drills designed to improve players' burst out of three-point stances.

If he's that fast/quick, does that mean this guy won't be asked to drop to 290 or something? Is he really quick enough at 340?

That's a little frightening -- and exciting.

Being is a few of your friends and lets have some fun over the next 5 years.

Bus, Will she be attending SMU sometime in the near future?

BTW Josh looks huge in that picture. We need big men, but would like to see him trim 25 lbs. if only for health issues. Carrying that type of weight can be really tough on one's back!

If we keep recruiting this way, in 5 years our football and basketball teams could be in the top 25 in their respective sports.

Definitely a big time pickup for the Mustangs. He could play right away...

I hope he does not have to. All interior lineman should be redshirted if at all possible. They need to develop more to play at the D-1 level. Skill positions can play right away if they can contribute, but it is a disservice to the athlete to make an interior lineman play as a freshman. And no matter how many examples you may give, that example would have been even better if redshirted. Also, we need to have enough depth at O-line not to need freshman lineman immediately.

I agree on both counts: I think he COULD play right away, and I hope he doesn't get that chance. Remember, at most big programs, offensive linemen get nowhere near the field for three years or so. So while I (like all PonyFans) want to see the best players on the field, I hope our current guys get bigger and stronger to the point that even a guy like Big Josh has to wait a couple of years before he starts administering pain on the field.
