First thing is to get a medical reshirt. Secondly, he'll be able to practice and game plan for not having DM. That was one of the biggest things the other night. They were obviously not prepared for life without DM.
I hope we will be, but I do not expect it. Didn't you expect us to be 3-1 after four games before last Saturday?
For the record, I think the R Kelly blackjack joke in today's blog entry is hysterical ...and everybody at the table laughed when I said it, even the dealer and the japanese guy who may or may not have spoken English and never doubled down on eleven.
So did I. They may not have a word for double down in Japanese. Then again maybe he was scared of your hands.

Yeah jstang I guess you are right about that. I did expect a win against North Texas State. But if we are 2-2 after 4 games thats not too bad. Plus we would then face Tulane and possibly be 3-2 after 5. I know, I know alot of "if's"......but these are not great teams we will be facing over the next few weeks. ![]() C-ya @ Milos!
Wow, horrible news...Everyone is just going to have to pick it up...
this is the first post that I was actually able to finish.... the rest pretty much pissed me off by the usual smu fan reaction of jumping ship when we lose a game we "should have won." I'm glad to see that some people are being realistic and saying that 2-2 is not that bad (if we do win the next 2) of a start, considering (a) SMU in the past few years has been streaky when it gets a win or two under its belt, (b) in the past few seasons the team has shown to finish stronger then it started (which in a lot of cases is the difference in a team making a bowl game or not, how many teams in the last few years have started off strong i.e., Baylor last year and then not make a bowl game?), (c) SMU is always good for atleast one upset or miracle drive which restores hope in all of the faithful. I'm up here at University of Tulsa law school and the last two mondays I've had to explain to a good friend of mine and give him every reason why we lost or what we could have done better. He played against us and after last years game he came up to me and said how much improvement he thought we had made since him and I both arrived at our schools. I have for the most part not said anything about PB, and have held back to get involved in the PB bashing and trying to defend him. So here are just a few things I would like to say, our "young" defense is much better then I expected, Willis will get better through out the course of the season (he'll be more comfortable in the pocket, know when to run and when not to, and he will start making better reads), and somebody will step up in the backfield (fitz or dorsey).... lastly i just want to leave this stat:
Frank Beamer 1987 (2-9) 1988 (3-9) 89 (6-4-1) 90 (6-5) 91 (5-6) 92 (2-8-1) 93 (9-3) Independence Bowl Champions bowl games every year since.... sometimes sticking with a coach more then 4 years isnt such a bad idea.... 20 years later Va Tech isnt regretting it!!!
2002 (3-9) 2003 (0-12) 2004 (3-8 ) 2005 (5-6) 2006 (???) I am not a fan of these comparisons only bc there are so many variables in looking at them, but looking strictly at the records you have shown compared to Bennett's, Beamer put up 2 winning seasons in his first 4 seasons with a total of 17 wins. Bennett has no winning seasons and a total of 11 wins (even though he played 1 more game in his first 4 seasons than Beamer did). To me for this comparison to hold weight you need to show me someone who had 4 consecutive losing seasons then suddenly turned things around. Based on our start to the season it is concievable, and possibly even likely, that we will have another losing season under Bennett. That would be 5 losing seasons in a row in 5 seasons as coach. If that is the case then I think it is perfectly acceptable to expect to cut the cord on him. If we finish this season 6-6 or better I expect he will be back for next season.
Acceptable???Hardly, but we can't change what has happened and it beats being 0-4 with this schedule...I can only hope we wind up 2-2 given our shity start. Don't confuse hoping for something...anything...better than what we have done so far as proclaiming acceptability.
If we start 2-2, it's a better start than we've had in recent years. We could bat .500 in C-USA games and still back into a bowl. As ugly as Saturday was (yes, I was there), it still counts as only one loss.
Are we behind the 8-ball? Yup. Are we done? HELL NO!
simmer down bitter pony... that really didnt make a whole lot of sense. 2-2 is more acceptable then 0-4 or 1-3, please check one: [ ] yes [ ] no [ ] maybe
