My problem w/ the BLVD...Why must the "powers that be" complicate the Blvd??? Here's the situation...all the parking spots and accompanying spots on the BLVD are rented. So, we tailgate in the middle of the BLVD in the "general tailgating" area.
My question: why is SMU such a pain in the *** about letting you unload all your tailgating stuff?!?!! We are set up every week by no later than 4 hours before the game, so we get there 5 hours before each game to unload our stuff. If you've been on the Blvd. 5 hous before gametime, you know, there aren't many folks up there yet!!! EVERY single time, we have had to beg and plead, and basically sell our souls to get past the security so we can unload a TAHOE full of stuff for our tent, along w/ dropping off my 86 year old grandfather w/ a heart condition. I understand the concern that some people would take advantage and steal people's parking places. BUT, both myself, and my Mom, an alum, have been multiple times to talk to them about this, just asking to be able to drop off our stuff - and no one has done anything to help. Frankly, no one really cares. Their attitude flat out sucks. It has all left a bad taste in our mouths. If we were out to steal somebody's parking place, would we really go to all this trouble??? Good grief. Why does SMU insist on this policy, that really just limits the number of tailgates to the number of parking spaces? Does SMU want to keep the Blvd small? Less people are inclined to tailgate if the policies complicate everything. There must be a better system. We'll be there every home game w/ our tent in the same spot as the last 2 years...always there 5 hours before the game when no one else is out there, and I'm sure we'll get hassled by the security guards in order to unload for 10 mins on an empty Blvd., or we'll spend an hour carting our stuff over in 95 degree heat. Thanks a lot SMU...
BLVD. has become a picnic almost independent of the FOOTBALL GAME.
I estimate that about a third of the picnic attendees actually make it waddling, moseying, or weaving back n forth and otherwise into the stadium.
Please send me a PM and I would like to try to help.
My folks are in their 80's and I like to help them too. SMU and the Boulevard should be for everyone. There are some rules and I have seen, watched, Boulevard pass holders get the cold shoulder form security. You may have to keep using that gift of talking your way in. Hey, it's a talent that you have. Go Mustangs. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
1. All the parking spots are already sold. If tailgating is only going to happen at each parking spot, why do they provide general tailgating in the middle of the BLVD?? What would be the point? 2. Already have - the athletics dept. and the alumni relations dept. - both did nothing, and didn't care either.
I wonder if this would work....
Two types of parking passes. The real paid parking pass and a 15 minute "UNLOAD PASS ONLY" Explain clearly this is an "Unload Short Term Pass" and that vehicles with this type of pass are to unload and then move out of the paid area. Then have one guy on a golf cart patrolling up and down. If someone with a paid parking pass complains about someone being in their paid parking spot.....give them 15 extra minutes and then tow em! Of course the enforement could be more lax 4, 5 hours before the game and get tougher as cutoff gets closer. C-ya @ Milos!
That figures. The athletic department has always been non-responsive. Although I don't think people should be able to drive around, they need a designated drop off area. #NewLobCity
i am glad to hear your comments, and see we are not the only ones who see it this way. we had a great tailgate this weekend, but unfortunately, the security on the Blvd. almost ruined the entire day for myself and my parents.
After the police told my father over the phone that they wouldn't be "closing down" the Blvd. until noon, they woke up, loaded everything up, and left their house at 10:30 in the freakin' morning (8 1/2 hours before game time) in order to make it to the BLVD at 11:30, only to have the jerk cops (I say jerks b/c they were incredibly rude to us) tell us they had shut down traffic at 8:30 that morning. Ridiculous. So, after seeing our Tahoe full of tailgating stuff, the manager who came over and argued w/ us, finally ok'd my parents the 15 mins they needed to unload, on the Blvd. that at 11:45 was almost empty. We then parked our car outside the Blvd...all we needed was 15 mins. to unload, in order to save us 10 trips and an hour of moving stuff. I have every intention of visiting all the top administration offices this week to report the treatment my family received this weekend at the hands of the hired security staff. Besides this incident, I saw 2 other striking examples of security being rude to fans, including not letting fans re-enter the stands from the same entrance walkways they had just come down in order to go to the concession stands (what is that about!?!). These 3 men were yelling, LITERALLY SCREAMING, at the security guards, demanding a reason why the walkway was "one way only" and how they were parents visiting for family weekend. I asked the guard what the policy was behind their blocking off the entrance-way, and he told me he had no idea. Great. Well, there goes thousands of alumni donations down the tube.
oh, and did i mention they refused to let my 86 year old, heart-condition grandfather who walks with a cane be dropped off at the tent? Nor did they offer a ride on the golf cart???? I was horrified to look up and see him walking down the Blvd. to our tent w/ his cane, in the 95 degree heat at 2:30, still well before the Blvd. was busy.
