You gotta love Patterson's comments

Postby mr. pony » Sun Sep 17, 2006 10:39 am

In today's DMN, Patterson sticks it to "the man", The Big 12:

"I get tired of being treated like a step-child in this state and in this town, and my kids do too."

"We've been waiting for this one for a long time. We may not get the top 100 [recruits], but we got pretty dang good" players.

"I got call-in show guys wondering how we're going to stop Texas Tech' offense. You just saw it. Speed, baby."

Isn't this what you've wanted somebody to say to the Texas media? But it doesn't do any good until you prove it on the field. 13 in a row and 4-0 against the Big 12 gives him the platform. That's why I always root for TCU or UTEP against the Big 12. Why some of you worry about TCU is beyond me. I worry more about fading away into total obscurity and insignificance to the public if the CUSA and TCU aren't at least competitive with the Big 12. TCU proves that it can be done. Go Frogs!

And that may still be the case when SMU meets TCU next year.

TCU may run the table this year.

Which is what Phil has done with adding speed to our team. Even though I cannot stand tcu, I have no problem in trying to imitate them in terms of taking lesser known players that can run. That is exactly what they have done over the past seven years or so and see where they are today getting in on more "highly recruited" players.

I was pulling for TCU, it keeps the pressure on the powers that be. If TCU can do this......SMU should be able to do this. With Orsini in town, this is possible.

TCU is gaining a lot more respect with a win over Tech and especially after not allowing a TD against them. I wouldn't be surprised if TCU gets a BCS bid this year

If TCU can do it, we can do it BETTER.

I haven't seen much speed on our defense.

Did you see UNT smoke us? Did you note that little white boy WR Quinn had almost a full cast on his hand and still got 135 yards against us?

Justin Rogers looks slow and very fat. He needs to lose 15 lbs and just be an underweight but fast DE again.

Perhaps we are faster now than under Cavan, but I still say the best defense we've had since DP was under Eric Schumann, with much less talent.

Pick and choose your battles. If you don't have the horses, don't try to play straight up on every play from scrimmage.

Schumann had the 3 best defenses since the DP-not even close plus they played better competition.

On the other hand, Texas Tech also showed it had a defense on Saturday. So, perhaps our offense is not as bad as we thought either. They stopped TCU in the red zone pretty effectively. I just wish we had played the Aggies instead of Tech. Did you see Army go after them?

Patterson is right. TCU has finally arrived. I believe they already had the respect of the national football fan, but not the local/Texas football fan. This win gave them that local respect. They are light years ahead of us. I hate the Frggies as much as anyone, but they deserve credit......no bogus "Commitments" over there in FW.

Yes and that was impressive. I look at Navy, Army and Air Force and am impressed. They can't recruit 'big uglies' or get the kids convinced they are only a few years away from the NFL, but they get the max out of their players.

As importantly, they know how to coach before and during the games. They take what is given, adjust during the game and design an offense and defense, which allows them to compete with BCS teams.

As a mater of fact, the most difficult loss for me during the last few years was the home game against Navy. IMHO, we were out coached and worse, we didn't adjust during the game.

Lastly, I have been a Phil supporter for years, giving him the benefit of the doubt to rebuild and give him time to do it. This year is critical for SMU and him. I still want and need 7 wins this year.
