PB's Guys...

Postby expony18 » Mon Sep 18, 2006 5:06 pm

i know a lot of people have said that if we don't have a 7 0r 8 win season PB should be gone... but he has made a commitment to recruiting "his" guys which until know have been inconsistent at best. But that being said our team is still one of the youngest in the nation... i know everybody likes to say Tech has a new qb every year, but what people fail to mention is that until this year they have all been in the tech system for 4 years... we started a freshmen and sophmore in our backfield along with a lot of other young players seeing a lot of pt. i don't necessarily think 8 should get him canned, but we can't have anymore major set backs. PB finally has a good group of young players who he can build on, and that way he doesn't have to throw every true freshmen out to the wolves... when he first came in i felt like if a player had any talent at all he threw them in and just prayed everything would worked out for the best. i know everyone cares about the win column but i finally see the mustangs becoming a full team... if one player had gone down in the past we were in a jam, but i think after last week (yes d-1aa) the guys finally feel that if someone goes down someone else will step up and fill the shoes... i haven't seen that in a long time!!

oh yah and does this mean that we're better then Colorado?

it's not meant to be used as an excuse, i was stating a fact and using it to say we have "young players" who are more talented then players in the past. the point was that there has been a huge improvement in recruiting in the past 4 years and that I believe PB will continue to get better players every year to build around willis and martin. whether PB is our coach or not next year or the year after, someone will be getting the benefits of some major improvements done in recruiting!

we were one of the "youngest in the nation" last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that. If we are always the youngest team in the nation something is seriously good or seriously bad at SMU. Good if they are all leaving early for the NFL, bad if they just aren't good enough and aren't making the field and are leaving to pursue other things. I think we all know which option is the case at SMU.

which brings up my number one reason for not getting rid of PB!! constant coaching turnover kills teams and recruiting!!!!!!!!! that's why we're alway one of the youngest teams in the nation... all it takes is oe coach staying for enough years to get a good class or two of his guys in the system, which i think we finally have. every coach not just PB talks about his kind of guys from hs to the nfl.... look at parcells, next year we won't be, unless we bring in another new coach who wants to plays his guys and then we're back at stage 1

Losing seasons also kill recruiting, as evidenced by his diminishing returns in recruiting since the one fairly good class.

Our team isn't as young as it's been in the past few years though. Our recieving corp is alot of upperclassmen same with our D line and some players in the back 7

expony18,

While I agree with your assertion in principal (especially as it concerns quality depth), the reality is that PB's Guys have finally begun coming of age. For example, look at the offensive and defensive lines where "seasoning" is considered most important. On the OL, we're starting 1 sophomore, 4 juniors and a senior (if you count the starting TE). On the DL we're starting 1 junior and 3 seniors. So while we'll probably be improved on the OL next year as everyone but Kennedy will hopefully still be around, we'll be graduating the bulk of what is arguably this team's strength – the DL – at the end of this season.

The reality is that for the last couple of years we've been the youngest team on any given Saturday, and the only upside to that was the knowledge that when our players finally grew into juniors and seniors, they should be seasoned multi-year lettermen with (theoretically at least) more experience than their opponents. That's why I think you're hearing many ponyfans' sense of urgency being expressed as frustration after the UNT loss. Since the Mustangs are no longer always the youngest team on the field, they need to start winning now before these great recruits start graduating.

We are NOT one of the youngest in the nation. That was 2 and 3 years ago.

Georgia has a True Frosh QB

SMU has a ton of SR starters on this team, and 2-3 year Jr starters.

He's had his time. If he can squeak 7 wins then he stays. If he gets 6, then it depends on the other 4 losses and how bad they are.

These are his players, his recruits, period. What makes you think that if he had 3 more years of his players and his recruits that he'd do so much better?

Nothing clears up Torts, except for a mid-December bender and a long, slow hangover... Oh lord I don't miss that class.

Cite one source that proves our recruiting is anything but poor to very poor in the last 3 years including the present one. Look through the 3-5 year binoculars-which is the proper viewpoint on the direction of the program and our talent level is in decline. That's the facts unless you are a little Cheerleader- the facts do not support the basis of your opinion.
