When I left at half-time the gate person said not a word.

When I returned for the second half the gate people said nothing as I re-entered and then as I was about to turn into the main breezeway a security official stopped me and and said "there is no re-entry" and pointed to the sign on the wall.

I stated I have been attending SMU games for years and always depart during half time and return to watch the 2nd half.

I asked who made this change in policy and he said he didnt know but that
it was now the rule.

I said "hey we need all the fans we can get, and we shouldnt be turning people away that have paid for a ticket because of some stupid no re-entry bonehead new policy".

Fearing I was about to become angry he waved me on through.

But just think how many people that are not as pushy just turn around and leave.

Can anybody comment about other stadiums around the country?

Can you depart and return at UT, OU, Texas Tech, TCU, ND, Texas A&M?

What is the norm or is it different at each facility?

I would think most of those places don't have problems with people leaving the stadium at half time

LSU is strict about the don't leave and come back policy. Entry into Tiger Stadium requires a full ticket...i.e. after yours has been torn, it's no longer a full ticket, and if you leave, you're not coming back in.

The AAC, though, is the opposite:

"For most events at American Airlines Center, re-entry is allowed at certain exits. You may contact an American Airlines Center representative at 214-665-4299 to find out if re-entry is prohibited for the event you are attending."

LSU holds 93000; AAC about 20. The AAC is much closer to a Ford crowd, and I would think a similar policy would work.

There are no ins-and-outs at the Swamp either. People use to go back out to the tailgate or across the street to the bars at halftime and come back even more liquored up than if they had just snuck in the booze in the first place.

I tried to take a coke from the 3rd floor club area to the 5th floor suite area. I was swarmed by 3 security guards and told it was a security breach to take drinks on the elevator. So I took the stairs. Byaaaaah!
go smu.

Re-entry policy
Patrons must have a stadium pass out stub and a game ticket stub to re-enter the stadium. Pass out stubs are available only at gates 1, 3, 6, 7, 12, 25, and 32. Pass outs for the west side Longhorns, Ltd. store are available at gate 6. Pass outs are only available through the end of halftime. No one will be allowed to leave and re-enter the stadium after halftime.

Is there a reason for not allowing people to go in and out? Is it to try to keep people from leaving early? Is it a security thing? Do they want people to sober up before the end of the game? I can't think of one good reason to not allow re-entry.

I would imagine it is to keep people in the stadium to buy concessions and other stuff. If you go outside to eat and drink they lose money. That is the same reason they do not allow coolers inside.

I would like to say that even though I am sure all the gripes are justified, I had a good experience with the ticket takers. Seems when I left home I tore off my season tickets for the game and inadvertently tore them off at the stub. Thus when I went to enter, the ticket taker noticed the ticket had been torn and was hesitant to let me in. I explained what had happened and they smiled and let me thru. BTW, sorry to whomever had my extra ticket. Hope you did not get into a hassel.

The security unfortunately extends to the Blvd. My son came back for his first game since recent graduation. He said he was depressed about what he saw. All the fraternities had their parties (unregulated) in their houses, thus avoiding the Blvd. and the game!

We had security people all over at noon on Mockingbird. Why? We weren't expecting 50,000 fans, but they sure were intent on keeping them away.

yes please post his response word for word..

I have been sick by the security since i was student starting in 2000...

But yesterday we were unloading our car for the tailgate around 2:30 with two cars eventhough we had only one pass.. next thing you know is that a guy drives up in a golf cart and tells (asks i don't really remember) us that we could only have one car per tent. We looked around at the other 8 CARS on the blvd at that time and said that is ridiculous, there are 8 CARS on campus right now and we have a lot of stuff to unload.. I politely asked if we could have 45 mins to unload everything and get set up (tv, sat, dish, grill, generator, etc. takes time) He responded w/ no you have 20 mins, again I looked at my watch and said its 245 and no one is here barely.. T
Next we informed him that we have been season ticket holders and tents renters for three years and have never been told this before.. He said, "New AD new rules" So we tucked our tails between our legs and moved the car (45 mins later though and watched them drive by 3 times checking on us)

Then i was talking to Rogers Healy, well known smu fans and ponyfans booster, who was wearing an ankle brace for his hurt ankle and was obviously limping.. He asked someone in a cart for a ride to flagpole to meet some letterman, their response,
"no we cannot give you a ridea"

What kind of customer service is this? Who says you can't put a happy bday sign up? Who says you can't blow a horn that you bought in the stadium?

Do what the Rangers and Irish do, get elderly gentleman and women who volunteer to do it or don't care about being paid much and who just like the college football atmospere to be ushers...

We need ushers not security guards.. We are not an SEC school.. rarely do you see someone absolutely hammered person in the stands pouring themselves another stiff drink out of their flask and yelling obsenities and causing trouble..

Yes but that is dealing w/ 85,000 + rabid die hard fans during games that are usually high stakes.. large crowds + high emotions= problems..

SMU does not have that problem ... 18000 fans + blowing out an inferior D1= does not cause problems

I agree w/ the AAC idea.. but comparing smu games to LSU games is like comparing apples to oranges.. LSU fans will show up in droves to start tailgating and drinking heavily 6 hours before the game starts.. They get absolutely sloshed and then go to the game w/ flasks in their pockets..

This is SMU we pay for customer service not for more security.. And when we are hassled after what we pay, We should get pissed off.

I'll be sending a note to Miller today with Orsini copied on it. Policies need to change. I noticed some change in the Stadium Club as I mentioned on another thread, but the change needs to happen across the board.

I feel like we're losing people that want to do stuff for the game. We've had two great weeks. I would hate to see an attendance of 10,000 next game because students and alumni aren't coming to the game because of security.

I don't leave at halftime, but I understand how some people may want to. Only allow it at certain gates and have one of the 50 cops that are at the game standing at the gates to refuse entry to those that are too drunk. Don't refuse people re-entry at the START of a game. Chances are they forgot something or just happened to step outside for a minute.

While the policies may be Miller's, I still have a problem with the yellow shirts. They are much ruder than they need to be. After the game and the post-game concert by the band, I wanted to walk out one of the gates closer to the direction of my car. I passed one gate that was open and there was not another one open until the complete other side of the stadium. I asked one of the yellow shirts if I could go out through Heritage Hall and she said very rudely, "NO!" While I don't mind being told no, I would like to be treated with a little bit more respect when it happens. A better idea would be, "No, I'm sorry. There's a gate that's open for exit at Gate __."
