UT tried to schedule SMU for today

Postby 03Mustang » Sat Sep 30, 2006 9:16 am

Interesting note from Gerry Fraley's article on UT from the DMN today about the Sam Houston St. game today:

Texas tried to take the high road and get a Division I-A opponent for this date. Associate athletic director Butch Worley said he contacted about 40 Division I-A schools, including SMU, over a six-month period but found no takers.

Guess no one wanted to be a punching bag, SMU included. If Copeland was still around he probably would have scheduled this one.

I'm pretty sure that CUSA would prefer we are playing in New Orleans today.

that, and UT was offering a measley $275K for the visitors and of course they were unwilling to reciprocate with a home and home. fraley was right to call out UT for scheduling this game.

Good god...instead they scheduled my alma mater, Sam Houston State. :roll:

Paycheck = $275,000.

Glad SMU decline the offer

As a double grad of both schools, I have the right to say shame on UT for begin cheapskates and asking for one-sided deals with SMU. Tech and aTm are better deals for us anyway.

yes shame on UT for scheduling Sam Houston St. without offering a return game. How dare they. Once they took strength of schedule out of the BCS equation and allowed these games to count for bowl eligibility the COLLEGE FOOTBALL FAN was shafted. No one can logically look at the situation and lay undue criticism at UT. It is simply out of control throughout college football mainly so the BCS schools can get that extra 1-2 home games. The only ones that can do anything about it are now the TV networks who continue to pay big money for this crap.

Interesting

What is interesting is that other schools and particularly conferences like the PAC 10 & Big 10 that schedule tough games with the same restrictions that are on the Big 12 & UT. Stallion, UT didn't get any takers and moved down as opposed to moving up... they knew that fans would come to whomever they scheduled compared to the other UT (Tennessee) that scheduled Cal (& beat them).
