Doak Walker Question

Postby Treadway21 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 12:41 pm

Who were the QB's duiring the time Doak was at SMU? I know Gill Johnson was one, does anyone know the others? Benners was on the team (I think) but not sure he qbed when Doak was there.
Had a friend ask the question, and I didn't have an answer and it peaked my curiosity.

Thanks.

No one player was called the quarterback since we ran the single wing and the tailback took the direct snap on each play. Doak was the tailback and called the plays. Gil Johnson and Fred Benners were passing specialists and handled the direct snap when they were in the game. On those plays Doak would move to wingback or flanker and become a receiver. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I am sorry I didn't see your reply until now. I guess Doak also threw a little also. My dad was at A and M and saw Doak play. I wish I had a chance to see him. Thanks for the info.

The great Doak Walker could do it all! What an incredible athlete! If a time machine is ever invented, I'll use it to go back and see an SMU game featuring the Doaker!
