What a night in the Superdome...and they sell alcohol at college games!
Pretty good SMU contingent there. More than TTech and a$m last year, IMO. Thank goodness for Jesse Henderson. The place was really getting into it after Tulane went from the verge of being shutout to damn near 400 yards passing and the lead. One thing I must comment on: One row in front of me was one of our own with a cowbell. I say hell yeah...stand, make noise, be loud...y'know, care. My stomach turned when on two occasions people were asked to sit down, and then another fan stomped on a cowbell, saying they didn't want to have to hear it. My stepson and I were incredulous. We spent Saturday morning in Tiger Stadium (one quarter anyway); his question to me: man, what would they do at LSU? Ask 'em to sit down also? I understand some folks would rather sit down. At some points in the game, I want to sit down also. Which is why I move to some place I can. Cowbell guy, keep being a fan...good job. Folks who didn't like the cowbell, please keep being fans too. I hear you when you say you drove 500 miles to see the game and didn't want to hear cowbell; I say I traveled 702 miles and got stuck having three hours worth of flight delays, arriving after midnight, and I just wanted to see our Mustangs. We are all on the same side, y'know.
Re: What a night in the SuperdomeThe Cowbell Faction will be ALIVE once again at Ford Stadium on October 14 against Marshall! At the Ark. State game there was an old fart sitting behind me who didn't like it and also didn't like the fact that I stand up ALOT during the games. My season tickets are on the next to the last row! So there are a LOT of places he could have chosen to sit again this year. He claims that his wife won't come to SMU games anymore because of me...well, guess what, buddy? T.F.B.!!!!! If you and she were TRUE SMU fans, you'd be standing up and cheering for the Mustangs, too! RGV: I'm sorry you and your son had to witness that debacle. You're welcome to sit with me ANYTIME you're at a game at Ford Stadium...and I'll have COWBELLS for both of you, too!!!! GO MUSTANGS!
Stand the whole game and ring whatever you want. Of all the stadiums in America - we are the one that has lots of options if you want to move somewhere else without a cowbell. Just pick a spot. Lets worry about this when we average 30,000.
The Mustang contingent last night was great. Much louder and involved in the game than at Ford. The alcohol was probably a factor but these were die hard fans. I sat a few rows behind the guy with the cow bell and he was a great fan. Did not see the stomping incident. Guess I was getting another toddy. Very unfortunate. Some lady behind me was the one going down in the stands and trying to get everyone to sit down. I do not think she was accustomed to rowdy Mustang fans. All in all, a great trip and a very enjoyable game to see.
Being the person who got his belled stomped on, I have a couple of comments.
1) The guy that did the stomping came and offered me twenty bucks for the bell because he wanted to ring it. He paid, then stomped. If he is on the site, thanks for the cash. It helped pay for the next 100 bells I just ordered. Hope a bunch of kids with bells sit next to you at the next game. ![]() 2) Upon the stomping I went down a couple of rows to a guy who had picked one up from me at the ASU game. He gave me his bell and I returned to my seat where I forget to sit down or stop ringing the bell for the rest of the game. 3) After the game I discovered that he is the father of one of our cheerleaders. I wonder if he stomps on her megaphone? ![]()
Are you friggin' kidding me? He LITERALLY stomped on that bell? He needs a smu diamond m lesson in spirit. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
I just read these posts to my wife (BornRed&Blue) and she said, "Keep ringing those bells! One of these days, we'll overcome the golf tournament mentality that some Mustang fans have!" God, I love her!
Lady came down to our seats as well. Needless to say I didn't even budge.
Those who go to NOLA are ALL real fans. If you do not like it, move. Luckily we have lots of room in Ford and the Dome was empty as can be. DBB
..I will be in town for the UH game, standing and yelling, being a passionate fan...please tell me where the cowbells will be so I can make sure my tics are well away...thanks.
RGV: Man, you're reading my mind. I bought tix in section 118 only to find out the band was sitting in our seats--we moved into section 117 or 116 near the front row and YELLED MY @SS OFF! I got so pi$$ed when I would turn around and see NO ONE making ANY F'N NOISE WHATSOEVER when we'd make a play. We had these drunk Tulane guys in front of us harassing our cheerleaders, and my group was the only to harass them back.
WHEN THE F'N HELL WILL OUR FANS GET OFF THEIR @SSES AND YELL FOR OUR TEAM? Absolutely pathetic---you know who you are! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
Section 205 is the 'Cowbell Section'! BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID!
Diamond M: Yep, stomped on it right in front of me. My wife had hold of my nuts to keep me from jumping over the seats. By the way, loved meeting you and loved sitting behind the band.
FordtoTolbert: You can't miss my tailgate. Red and blue suburban and candlrabras. We are right across from Perkins library and the nonalcholic tailgate area ![]() 1965: Dang straight section 205 rocks! If we are lucky we will drive away all of the old farts that can't afford to sit behind the glass but hate noise at a football game. Everyone: Please come by and get cowbells! Send everyone you know. I will hand them out until I run out, so come early!
I, too, was asked to sit down. Old man asked if there was something wrong with my eyes that I had to stand up to see. I said, "Yes. It is a very serious problem and I am very self-conscious about it. Is there anything wrong with your legs that you can't stand up?"
The guy who sits behind me at Ford looks like Jeff Dunham's ventriliquist puppet, Walter. Wonder if the guy at the Superdome was the same guy?
