Heywood/Henderson players of the week

Postby mrydel » Mon Oct 02, 2006 3:54 pm

Someone with computer skills needs to post the article from SMUmustangs.com stating the naming of Heywood and Henderson as defensive and special teams players of the week respectively.

You guys beat me to it:

Haywood, Henderson Named C-USA Players Of The Week
Mustangs Honored Following Tulane Win

Oct. 2, 2006

DALLAS (SMU/C-USA) - On the heels of SMU's 33-28 win over an emotionally-charged Tulane squad Saturday night, SMU football standouts Adrian Haywood and Jessie Henderson have been named the Conference USA Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced today.

Haywood, a senior from Mesquite, notched three tackles-for-loss, including a sack, and forced a fumble in the fourth quarter on a potential go-ahead scoring drive by the Green Wave. Haywood was part of a Mustang defense that held Tulane to -33 rushing yards, a new SMU record. He finished with five total tackles.

Henderson, a sophomore from Paris, Texas, put SMU back in the lead with a fourth-quarter kick return that he brought back 100 yards for a touchdown. He had three returns for 136 yards on the night and this marked his second career score on a kickoff return.

The honors for the SMU duo were the first won by Mustangs this season.

SMU returns to the gridiron on Saturday, Oct. 7, when the Mustangs travel to UTEP to take on the Miners at 8 p.m. Central.

My sincere apologies for misspelling Mr. Haywood's name. I thought he spelled it with an e rather than an a. I will not edit since that would make my apology confusing.

Henderson is the man, what an incredible runback!

I think the reports of his speed and elusiveness definitely oproved true, I think he will run more back if teams continue to kick to him. (he reminds me a litle of Reggie Bush)

Hayward he is making a name himself (that is one dude who wants to paly again next year)

Huge plays by both of these guys at critical points of that game. Difference makers! Well deserved recognition. Who will be the 1st to earn that honor a 2nd time?
