Stay Classy, SMU!

Postby Peruna2001 » Mon Oct 02, 2006 3:53 pm

Since I haven't seen anybody mention it, I just thought I'd comment about the end of the game.

Last night I quickly watched the game on my DVR so I could see the highlights. Unfortunately, I was stuck in a wedding reception on the loneliest part of the SA Riverwalk. I got to the end of the game and was very happy with what I saw. We could have easily run up the score. We were only a few yards from the endzone. Instead we took a knee and even handled an emotional Tulane player very well.

Over and over again, I'm glad to see what a class act we present on the field. PB is teaching these guys great lessons.

Stay classy, SMU!

My friend watching the game with me at the Public House is just a casual SMU fan that only watches when I make him come with me and he was wondering why we didnt try and score at the end of the game and I told him that is not our style, we never try and show up an opponent, especially on their home turf.

Plus, most years our integrity is all we have had and we do not want to lose that just because we are fortunate to have a little bit of "on field" success.

Plus you don't want to have a replay of the Baylor-UNLV fiasco from a few years back where they tried to get cute and score some more points with the game in hand, only to screw it up and lose.

Personally.. I would love to see the fake "take a knee" play.. and throw it deep.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

... notwithstanding the people in my section at the 'dome shouting for us to score, especially after that stupid late hit.

I was all for taking the knee until the late hit. After that, I figured they apparently wanted to keep playing, so we should have scored.

Of course, on the other hand, you have to forgive the Tulane player for being a little emotional and letting that take control of him...

I LOVE DESK

errr SMU

I personally think we shoulda gone for it after the late hit. At the point of the late hit, we had the game sown up so kneeling was not a problem. Shoulda just gone for it. Barring, of course, an INT/FR returned for a td.

Ya'll don't think Bennett was thinking about Mike Leach at that point? ;)

One other thing that you have to take into account is that the coaching staffs got to know each other very well after the Hurricane and have become good friends. Now if it were Texas Tech or Houston, I RUN UP THE SCORE!  Tech fans are bunch of CLASSLESS JERKS, especially after the way our fans were treated at their game and the way they treated some A$M friends of mine after last year's game in Lubbock. As far as Houston is concerned, I will never forgive Houston's coach Jenkins for running up that ridiculous score after we returned from the death penalty!

Wasn't Jack Pardee U-of-H's coach when they ran up the score on us?

exactly my thoughts when i was watching the game... PB has told players, alumni, and fans that he's not going to be a coach that tries to run up the score... thats why he's good for smu... most other coaches in our situation (a team starting to make the turn) would have punched it in especially after the late hit!
