Running Backs

Postby Duke Blue Blood » Mon Oct 02, 2006 8:18 pm

ROSTER REPORT: Starting RB DeMyron Martin (foot) missed his third consecutive game but could be back as early as this week's game at UTEP. With Martin out, and Johnnie Fitzgerald (ankle) and Fred Turner (foot) unable to return for the Tulane game, junior RB Cedrick Dorsey started and carried 14 times for 45 yards.

So what is the status on the boys? Mapps looked like a completely different player against a bigger line in Tulane.

It looked like he tried to go wide on them when he should have tried to cut back against the grain for yardage. They were as quick as he was getting to the outside, which I think surprised him. They probably watched the tape from last week and were prepared for him.

Maybe he was overly (or not) concerned about the slick turf at the super dome. His running style requires making a lot of quick changes in direction which was probably not easy on the new turf.
