1st half performance

Postby ALEX LIFESON » Sun Oct 08, 2006 2:25 pm

If SMU could have made just a little bit of a better showing in the first half, it could have made the difference. In the first half SMU had only 38 yard total offense, and 9 minutes time of possession. Final time of possession was 38:02 to 21:58 in UTEP's favor, with SMU going 0-11 on third down conversions. I noticed Chase Smith getting a lot of reps in place of Darrin Johnson. Sean Lobo played a bunch at left guard........and to tell the truth, I can't remember seeing Tommy Poynter out there. Can anyone confirm or deny this about Tommy? Oh, and I almost forgot emotion, we seemed to have none in the first half, for whatever reason. In the second half even before our first score, the defense started running to the ball, and playing with some intensity.

o-line

After the North Texas loss...Smu has been rotating its offensive line every game to try and get some consistent play across the board. The holding penalties are still killing us.

I like the idea of rotating offensive lines. Whitey Jordan did that when he was offensive line coach under Bobby Collins and it helped wear out the other team as well as give the underclassmen experience.

The back ups that played in the line against Tulane were, Mitch Enright, Chase Smith and Sean Lobo. I didn't notice Mitch in there last night.
