Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesI agree with La Mustang. How the hell did Rice get on UT's schedule, and we can't. Of course, we haven't beaten Rice a whole lot lately...anyhoo.
Our OOC games this year certainly don't look half bad. Last year when we were 0-4, my brother jokingly said, "Uh, SMU needs to stop playing Big 12 teams." I don't agree with that. If you ever want to have a chance to be king of the block, you gotta go ahead and try to punch some bullies.
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesRice on UT's and A&M's schedules? Hmmmm...could it be that there are more alumni from those two schools combined in the greater Houston area than any other school and that would guarantee a HUGE turnout (butts in seats) at Rice Stadium?

Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesNot to mention the fact that Rice Stadium holds 70,000 and Rice as an opponent doesn't pose a serious threat to UT. We will not likely EVER host UT or A$M at Ford Stadium.
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesbtw, the Rice-UT game is being held at Reliant Stadium this year, not at Rice Stadium.
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesUT plays in Dallas every year so they don't need a game in Dallas, but since they dumped Houston and Rice, they figured out that their recruiting and fundraising needs an occasional Houston appearance. I doubt they'll ever play us up here again. The Aggies on the other hand might be interested in the future. Bennett is an ex-Aggie. Franchione knows he needs to recruit DFW. There are lots of Aggie alums in Dallas.
Franchione will not want to play TCU. UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesSouthland- I agree. Try to bring as many of the nearby BCS schools like KU, MU, Ark for b'ball and football. I believe it would help in recruting for all sports and it will give us a better measuring stick as to improvements in the programs. I want to see more than Baylor and TT in b'ball. A$M would also be fun.
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesDon't forget that Ford Stadium can be easily expanded to hold more than 40k by enclosing the horseshoe, if we can ever generate the need for that many seats.
Certainly it would make it more attractive to Arkansas, who we used to play regularly until we built Ford, and A$M. As to Texas, I don't think it would matter if we had 100,000 seats since they already play Oklahoma here every year.
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesNow isn't that sad? The Rice-UT game moves to Reliant...only a stone's throw away from Rice U....and off of the campus. So much for 'game day' atmosphere at Rice U. They've got a HUGE parking lot for tailgate parties at Rice Stadium whereas parking is not that great at Reliant. That's why I'm so proud of SMU for building on campus. We didn't have that 'game day' atmosphere for so many years when we were at the Cotton Bowl and Texas Stadium.

Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesIf we want to schedule A&M and Arkansas and other larger impact Big 12 schools, we should be planning to expand Ford to 40K? It's a reach, but should we be planning this leap of faith right now?

Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesSMU played Ole Miss Dr. Turner's first year here. Atthe time it was stated they didn't have room for us in their immediate future. However, both Dr. turner and the Ole Miss folks said it would be a future priority. It's a great trip to Oxford. I hope it happens.
Long live Thomas Sowell!
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesQuestion - if you could create SMU's schedule, who would you put on it and why? Just for fun, so feel free to include the conference and schedule 4 OOC or just create a 12/13 game schedule using any team available.

Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesMiami
ND UT Ohio State 2 home, 2 away
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesAt home: Any old SWC team. LSU, OU.
Away: Tennessee, Army, Penn State, UVa (for selfish reasons and even if the game stinks we could have a drink off between two heavyweight party schools). UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: 2004, 2005, 2006 schedulesOOC:
UT A&M TT USC (the schools are sooo similar and I have a passion for both) Granted we would probably go 0-4 but it would be fun to watch SMU play these guys. And then play 8 C-USA games. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
