Anyone familiar who Scott Mitchell is? For those of you who are not, he was the starting QB at S. Carolina earlier this year. A few weeks ago he was out past curfew, got in a fight at a bar and was suspended.

Now lets look at our situation, Justin was out past curfew at a party, got in a fight was suspended. Sounds pretty similiar so far.

Scott Mitchell was suspended by Steve Spurrier for one game because he was out past curfew and punched a fellow student.

Justin Willis was suspended so far because he was out past curfew and got in a fight w/ a student.

The victim in teh USC case did not file charges against Scott Mitchell.
So far this beard kid did not file charges against Justin Willis.

This case seems very similiar so far, except for this...
Scott Mitchell missed one game and played the next week.

I sure hope that there isn't that much different in the code of conduct for two UNIVERSITIES that one player can be suspended for one game at one university and another can be suspended for multiple games at another university.

Yes, Spurrier canned his main man for a few games...but didnt Mitchell cut his hand at the bar fight?

And the difference is Mitchell didnt say FA6 to someone. And by saying that, it could be a hate crime somehow...

for those of you who want to bring in the "hate crime" issue.. There have been no charges filed yet by Beard

how is this case any different than Scott Mitchell case in South Carolina...

from the DMN today..
"Willis is suspended because of an altercation with a male SMU student early Friday morning. The alleged victim accused Willis of a hate crime in a police report, but Donna Hernandez, a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Department, said Tuesday that the incident should not be classified as a hate crime at this time. No charges have been filed."

Yes, as I said in a seperate thread, no charges have been filed.

However, beard can file charges anytime he wants because he has the statue of limitations.

I am no lawyer but i know that beard can file charges anytime he wishes within a certain time frame.

I am sure that SMU is trying to find a middle point to meet so Beard and Willis can come to terms and charges WONT be filed in the end.

That is probably why this is taken so long.

It has taken soooo long for one reason and one reason only.
It has been fall break, and there has been nobody available except administrators to handle the Judicial Hearing Board.

Today was the first day back.

They should have this handled as soon as possible.

But I for one am pessimistic about the outcome.
The university has institutional Turrets Syndrome; it just can't help forcing its way into the middle of everything and screwing it up.

that again is true. The fall break has led this process to be dragged out throughout the lawns in front of Dallas Hall.

Did anyone know that today was "National Coming Out Day" Just FYI...

That is actually a holiday? Maybe tomorrow should be National Free Willis Day.

Thats exactly what I am hoping to have happen. Would be great for Willis to be back at practice getting read to prepare for the Herd.

Would totally throw off the Herd defensive game plan if Willis was reinstated in less than 24 hours.

Oh I know, let's do it Friday at 6 pm that we really throw their game plan off and we don't give Willis any practice time. That would be the greatest idea ever.

I just found the most awkward Facebook group. "Poke the other team's quarterback" There is definitely something wrong with that.

PB is not that dumb to let willis play with no practice time.

Wish it would happen but it wont.

I dont see Willis playing if he is not reinstated by this afternoon.

I would like to ask the question I have asked several times and never gotten an answer. There was another athlete involved (Sanders). He was out past curfew, he punched the kid and from what I have read, he was the one that used the F word. Is Sanders practicing and if so, why. Or if so, why is not Willis. There is something more to this when you have 2 people involved in the exact same act at the exact same time identified by the exact same people listed in the exact same report and only one is being punished.

I am not advocating that Sanders be held out. Quite the contrary. If he is ok to play, why can Willis not play also?

I agree with you on that. The way I read the article that involved the police report. Sanders was the one that started the actual incident. JWill didn't even throw the first punch. Something is not right about that. Can we trade one for the other by any chance?

Believe it was Blake Mitchell, but whatever. How about Penn State's Rashard Casey who beat up a police officer in 2000. “I'm going to play Rashard Casey until someone convinces me I shouldn't,” Joe Paterno said at the time.

Why wouldn't they just go against the school and let them play.
1. PB job is on the line. Surely the university wouldn't come pull him of the field
2. JWILL plays everyone is happy and once again, what would the university really do. Go arrest him in the middle of a game and pull him off the field. Lets be real there are maybe 1 or 2 campus police who could actually catch him

I really don't get the whole line of thinking of guilty until proven innocent
