So where does not keeping up with current events fall into that? He actually scored a 16 (which is still pretty crappy, but hey he's making $54mil and I'm not).

Are you still struggling to make ends meet under that $53 million deal you got? I don't see how you do it....

as long as SMU fans themselves continue to bring up the DP it will forever be part of our living legacy, not just a thing in the past.

I can't wait to hear 75K boo the swinging gate in the first game at Kyle.

I find it curious one could be so happy with what Bennett has done at SMU in a pathetically weak conference and Division and yet be so critical of Fran who competes in a nationally competitive conference and partucularly a brutal Division- I realize it is down this year but The Big 12 South has had two perrenial National Championship contenders, about 4 teams contending for the Top 25 every year. Its particularly stupid when you go check Phil Bennett's record after his 5th game of his 4th year.

CUSA is pathetically weak? I wouldn't go that far.

I would-just compare this conference with the other non-BCS conference we have been in-where is the BYU, the Wyoming, the Utah, the Hawaii, the Fresno St, the TCU, the Boise St. competing for the Top 10? or at least the Top 20. Do we have a team in the Top 60? I really don't think so. When you look at Tulsa, UTEP, UH, Rice, and Tulane is there really any excuse for SMU not to be able to dominante this conference if the program were run correctly. When does Phil Bennett play programs like UT, OU, Missouri, Nebraska, OSU, Tech and even Colorado, Iowa St. Kansas St etc on their good years. You do realize that CUSA has now dropped BELOW the WEAKENED WAC in the power ratings.

Hold on now. SMU's current schedule does not have much to do with Phil Bennett. Most schedules are made years in advance. They might schedule a good team one year and they take a 2-year slide. Is that Phil Bennett's fault? Hell no.
Perfect example (and I know you're going to hate me using UT as a frame-of-reference, but it's what I know best): A few years back UT played a home-and-home with UNC. When Texas scheduled them they were a top 10 team coached by none other than Mack Brown. At the time it looked like a good matchup. When it came time for the game UT was a top 10 team and UNC wasn't even on the radar. Is that the coach's fault. Not at all.
Simply because there are no 'great' CUSA teams this year doesn't mean that it's a bad conference. It means that it is having a down year. Just pick a year and you'll see that one CUSA team or another has been in the Top 25. I think CUSA is a good fit for SMU as they're rebuilding their program and could help them get into a position to to be an attractive addition to a bigger conference in the future ala Louisville.
