on merch. supply v. demand. to say that SMU doesn't license is the dumbest thing i've heard in a long time. if there's one thing SMU can do, it's business.

I'm not the one saying it, it is all the merchandisers that have talked to. Everytime I see someone selling stuff from other schools, I challenge them why they don't have SMU stuff, and that is their response. And it is not just stores, it is manufacturers, that make stuff for other schools, and they say they cannot get the permission from SMU to make their stuff with SMU on it, they have tried.

Are there any SMU football aniversaries coming up soon??/

I sure would love to see SMU in some throwback uni's to honor the past.

Especially with those white helmets with red mustangs.

The Centennial is only a few years away, 2011, it will be here before you know it.

Next season (2007) will be the 25th anniversary of the 1982 SWC Champion and 1983 Cotton Bowl Champion team that finished 11-0-1 and #2 in the nation.

I would love to see us go back to those unis for the entire season. In fact, I am going to suggest it to Steve O.

Yes, both of those aniversaries would be perfect for a Throwback night at Ford.

Or I would love to see the team go back to the old school uni's for the whole season.

not that i am really concerned, but how often are you speaking to the actual manufacturers of collegiate merchandise? like i said before, supply v. demand. i don't buy the fact that the 5 or so people posting on this thread are in direct contact with manufacturers or even distributors of SMU merch. if that is the case, so be it. but until ONE of you provides the legal name of ONE of the 'merchandisers' that you claim, i'm not buying it.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

OMG, you must also be a person that has to have proof that there is a God . . . one person I have talked to is the owner of McCartney's, if you are local, you know that they are across the street from SMU and carry the most SMU stuff possible, but there are things that they carry for other schools, too, that they CANNOT get for SMU. Not buying it, is exactly the problem, none of us "can buy it" because it's not in the stores ! ! !

Guess it's okay for the NCAA to make the players buy back their own jerseys at the end of the season, while the school can make revenue by selling replica jerseys at the bookstore (although I don't recall SMU doing this in the past; do they do it now?)

I'd love to see a Throwback Night when the Ponies come out on the field in uniforms designed like those from the Doak Walker era -- cream jerseys with red numbers, etc.

I still want to see a return to the royal blue jerseys and white helmets from the Mike Romo era.

I totally agree with you, I sure hope that the Athletic Department can come up with some ideas on how to respect the past teams and have more than one throwback night with more than one uni.

Throwbacks would definitely be neat to see, and might be a good marketing tool. But when they switch back to throwback helmets, that's where I draw the line!

Why the helmets??? I miss the old white with the red stang. if you throwback a uni, you have to do the whole uni.

Teams like Florida (100th anni this year), OU, and UT have worn throwbacks to honor past teams and past anni's. So i think that it would be a great marketing tool and just great for the team to do this.

My bad. I meant throwback helmets in terms of the old leather ones circa Doak Walker. Don't need any head injuries to our boys.

I always liked the white helmet with the blue Pony and facemask (think Jason Wolf -- the all-time Southwest Conference leader in receptions).
